So me and my fiance were watching 'Lost' last night and we would like to hear some ideas of what is going on with the show...I personally think that there is something to do with purgatory and/or hell but I could be way off base. Just sending out some curiosity to see what others have to say...crazy scenarios are acceptable as long as there is some basis to the show;)

I think they're in a parallel universe, though not necessarily dead.

That would explain why no one saw the helicopter from which Naomi parachuted (remember, Sayid asked if anyone had actually seen it).

It also would explain why Desmond keep returning to the island while trying to sail away; same with Sawyer, Jin and Michael when they were on the raft.

It could explain why they can never "reach" anyone with any radios they find (though it wouldn't explain why they could hear the sound of big-band music at night in the one episode).

Finally, it could explain why Ben could "see" Jacob but maybe not hear him, while Locke apparently could "hear" him but not see him.

It could be that the Others (now apparently the original inhabitants of the island) discovered some portal only accessible underwater (hence the submarine).

1. It's not purgatory or hell. First of all, the producers have repeatedly said that it has nothing to do with those or with aliens/outer space or time travel. Second of all, that would be too easy - can you imagine the reaction of fans if we all watched for 3 more years to find out that this was all someone's dream or wasn't real?
2. Michael and Walt are definitely somewhere still on the "island" or floating around it. There is NO way that Ben, et al would have let them just leave. NO way. Even if they couldn't ever, never find their way back, they still know way too much.
3. I read somewhere else this morning that someone's theory is that Ben is the only one that can see Jacob, but apparantely can't hear him and now, it seems that Locke can hear him but not see him. I tend to agree, that would explain why Ben was so p*ssed at Locke - because Locke can do something he can't despite all his years and history on the island.
4. I think that the ask surrounding Jacob's house is volcanic ash. Why else did they make suck a KEY point of talking about volcanos in the Dharma school? And, I think that they are a lot closer to the U.S than we all think. (Ben was born outside of Portland, Oregon. Isn't Portland close to Washington - Mount St. Helens - volcanos? Alaska - polar bears?)
Just some thoughts! :-)

Lost is actually making more sense to me. I still have questions but they're more focused now.
I still believe the Island was being used by the Dharma Group for scientific studies. I'm still not sure where the Others came from, but I now know they were there first. I still think all the weird events (Locke walking, Walt's ESP, Sun's baby being Jin's baby even though he's sterile, the smoke monster, the polar bears, the ship in the middle of the jungle) have something to do with the Island's electromagnetic field (remember helicopter chick saying her instruments went crazy and that when they first flew over, the Island wasn't there). In fact, I believe that's why Dharma chose the Island in the first place, just didn't quite work out like they thought it would.
I believe Jacob was the real person whom Ben met in the jungle as a child, but that now he is either (a) a ghost/poltergeist; (b) stuck in a parallel dimension/another plane of existence; (c) invisible (and crazy); or (d) a figment of Ben’s imagination that the Island has caused to become “active” via telekinesis on Ben’s part (from being on the Island so long).
I believe Locke may not be dead, that the Island's "power" may help to heal him (well, it made him walk). I also believe that last night Ben lost some of HIS power with the Others - that's why he shot Locke, because at that point, Locke could have easily taken over.
I don't believe in aliens, government cover-ups, or Purgatory. I think it's just one of those unexplored Islands that Hollywood has been making movies (Lost World ring a bell?) about for a long time. And regardless of what they say, Walt and Michael are still somewhere on that Island.

After kinda seeing Jacob, all bets are off.

It seems like Jacob is very much elsewhere, and communicates telepathically, but Ben & Locke are using different band-widths. That's why it took a few minutes for Locke to register anything. Jacob had to find his channel.

Was that ash or beach sand Locke investigated? Does Ben have Jacob trapped? If so, it seems the women's and infant's deaths in child-birth are all Ben's fault. If it is beach sand, that explains why the Losties have been safe on the beach. I'm thinking Smokey is Jacob's only eyes on the island, and is pretty much limited to certain sectors of the island.

I'm way off the path of them being dead. Cooper's belief he was in Hell sealed it for me that they're very much alive.

there are forums that i post/read that have the most AMAZING members who come up with ideas/theories that i would have never thought of.
i go there after the show & there's always something that someone metions that i missed.
also, the producers have said that it's definitely NOT purgatory. i don't have a clue what it actually is, haha.

Did you see Jacob? It took a couple times, but I saw him. The word is people think he is Jacks dad, or something to do with Locke? Remember that Locke's mother's name is Emily, the same as Ben's mother's name. Hmmm. Are they related, could that explain that it seems Locke has special powers? Oooo, its got me!!!!

I think all of them are in a mental hospital and this is some type of mass experiment on dreams! I am probably way off base as I usually am and with three more seasons to go...it will be quite a while before we figure it out!
