News reports of innocent toddlers being killed, often by their own parents, seem to be more commonplace than in years past. Seems safe to assume that if they're losing their lives they're also being abused more often, which may not necessarily make the headlines.

Is there anything more repulsive and sad? I find it difficult to comprehend how society is apparently failing, in many cases, to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Have you ever found yourself crying over the death of a child you didn't even know?

Many, many times. People like that shouldn't be allowed the privilege of having children. Forced sterilization comes to mind. Even kids are awful these days -- my 10 year old daughter went to a neighbor's birthday party for her 3 year old. My father was there too. My poor daughter came home with red marks on her neck & missing a chunk of hair. Another girl at the party, her age & her little brother, started tickling her...they were in the basement...before she knew it the girl had both hands around my daughter's throat & was squeezing her windpipe shut, choking & shaking her head back & forth. The little brother starting pulling out her hair from the top of her head. She fought her way free & ran home to tell me what happened The owner of the home & hostess of the party had the nerve to blame my daughter's predicament on ME! Then she threatened to call the police. My husband called the police & WE filed a complaint of harassment against her. Unreal. What a horrible society to live in.

The media only wants dirty laundry. There will always be sick bastards out there. Our society has become too safe. People are too afraid of being hurt or offended that we've got a generation of kids whose parents will raise them with television instead of making them go outside and play rough. Every boy should at one point break a bone, get stitches and get in a fist fight.

Yes i have cried over the death of children I do not know. It does seem as though society is becoming more dangerous to children, and people in general.

No, its about the same. With newer technology, its harder to get away with it. Back in the day, most children's deaths were harder to prove and were often reported as accidents and illness.

Yes, just once when I heard Elizabeth 'Lisa' Steinberg's story.

I think it is actually more safe now. It's just the constant media coverage that makes it seem worse.
