Well my 4 months old is 20lbs and he is a happy baby! Just wanted to know if a lot of mothers babies were like this when they were this age before they started crawling or walking? I'm not to concerned but this is my first and I just wanted to know if this was in the norm. Thanks

Well, my daughter will be 6 months this week and she is not yet 20 pounds. Last month she was 16pounds, so by her next appointment (2 weeks) she should be close to 20. But 20pds at 4 months i think is a little heavy for an infant, but if the doctor says he is healthy, than i wouldn't be concerned.

My first baby is 9 weeks old and already 16 pounds. He does not look heavy and is very long for his age. When born he was over 9 pounds. He is not crawling yet either. Doctor said since his weight, height and head size are all growing in proportion with each other he is fine. So do not worry...I have seen with other people when they have larger babies they just keep getting larger for awhile lol. Once they start moving it will slack off some. hope this helps

My son was 18 lbs at 4 months so I know what you're talking about.

Your baby should be fine. My son just turned 7 months and he is just over 20 lbs so odds are he is evening out... your baby will probably do this too. My son can't crawl or walk yet, but he loves to stand by himself and roll around. I'm sure as soon as they start moving around more, they're weight gain will even out.

My last 2 boys were about the same weight at that age. Nothing wrong with it at all! As long as he is happy and healthy and his pediatrician says he is doing fine, don't worry about it too much. Once he begins crawling and moving around a lot he will burn off some of that baby fat!

My 4 month old daughter weighs 18 lbs. She's so long - her weight is really well proportionate to her body.
My doctor said she isn't overweight. Although she is the the very top percentials for everything!!!
How big was your son when he was born???
My daughter was 9 lbs 12 oz, they said they should double their birth weight by 4 months old.
My daughter still hasn't rolled over yet, although every baby is different. The doctor did say that bigger babies tend to walk later than "normal" size babies.
I'd say he's fine.

My son is also a big boy. He weighs about 25lbs right now and is not even 9 months old. He wears 18 month clothes. He isn't crawling yet but he is starting to. He sort of rocks back and forth and his knees but doesn't actually go anywhere, except for kind of scooting backwards. He loves to stand up(with help of course) and he sits up all by himself wonderfully.

Mom claims I was 33 pounds at 11 months and the doctor told her I'd never walk, (this was 32 years ago). I walked fine, everything was fine. If you're really worried talk to your doctor at the next well baby visit.

Every child is different, my daughter didn't hit 20 lbs until she was over a yr old, she is 26 months now and weighs 30 lbs. It also depends on your baby's length, as long as your doctor isn't worried, I wouldn't be either.

Yes, both my kids were big, and girls. They have always been in the 95th percentile for height and weight. My oldest is 8 and in 2nd grade and the kids are just now starting to catch up to her. My youngest is in K and like her sister is a head taller than most classmates. My Dr. told me its fine if they have always been big, its only if they suddenly get big, he also said it is good if they get really sick they have a pound or two to give without it being critical. I also worked with a guy who had small kids and he got as much guff about that as I did about mine being big. You just cant win, if he is happy and healthy just ignore people.

you really need to talk to your baby's doctor about something like this. i'm not an expert, but that does sound quite big for such a small baby. my son is 3 years old (big for his age) and only weighs 40 pounds. he's never been too thin or too heavy, so the fact that you little one is already 20 pounds does raise some concern.
