If so, do you cover them with transparent plastic? Yes or No and why? Best Answer gets 10pts!

Usualy I buy paperback because then the binding doesn't fall apart so easily, it is less wieght to lug around, it is smaller usually so it can fit in my back-pack better.
I do cover them with the plastic, when I have some. It helps so the book doesn't fall about, and if you accidently spill something on it, it won't stain. I was a TA at the library and had to cover books, it just makes sense too.

Most of my books are paperback because they are cheaper and replaceable. I own a few hardcover books but they are mostly anthologies and dictionaries. For example, I have a hardcover anthology of literary theory and criticism. Why? Some books are not available as paperback editions so hardcover is the only option. Do I use transparent plastic? No. Like I said, most paperbacks are replaceable. If one gets damaged, new copies are readily available online or at the nearest bookstore. I hope that answers your question.

Yes I do buy paperback books... they're cheaper.

And no, I don't (normally) cover them with transparent plastic because I just buy novels that I read once and I'm done with them.

But yeah... If it's a book that will undergo a lot of wear and tear, say a text-book, then I do get them covered.

I always wait for paperback editions. I'm a graduate student on a very tight budget.

I don't cover them with plastic, though. I keep them in my bookcase, and that usually keeps them safe enough. In fact, I've never seen a plastic cover for a paperback - only hardbound books. Either way, most books I buy I pass on - once I've read it, I like to share the wealth of a good story with someone else. Keep reading, keep learning!

I buy paperback book, I like the way they feel in my hand as I read them. No I never cover them with the clear plastic. I don't like the way the plastic looks, You know sometimes it gets those air bubbles. Plus it doesn't feel like paper anymore. Like I said I like the way it feels when I read it.

Yes, I do. Then I donate them to our local library and they cover them with plastic. I like paperback because a big hardcover book hurts my hands to hold it and the smaller book doesn't.

Sure. I prefer hardbacks for aesthetics purposes, but for travel purposes there's nothing easier then toting around a paperback. I don't cover them with anything, though. For a collectors item I get the hardcover, so the soft cover is something that can be used and abused.

Of course, paperbacks are light and a whole lot cheaper. However, they don't last a life time, but then again, how many books do you want to keep for an entire life time?

absolutely....especially when I am in dire straits for a book and so I just pick out a random one....I don't feel the need to go buy a hardback book for some book that isn't worth it....I do not cover them either....I guess I never really thought about doing it...plus I do love the look of a well loved and read book
