Why is America so cruel to its women? I don't think women should ever be sent to jail or prison. At most they should be given house arrest.

Well, it goes back to the old cliche "If you do the crime, you should do the time". I think her getting punished for what she did is appropriate, but I really do think that they could have given her work release, and possibly a lighter jail sentence. I think a week or two with work release would have had just as profound an effect on her. For someone who's used to the cushy, easy life, I think a week in jail would have been plenty for her to realize what she did was wrong, and make her count her blessings for what she does have! Although I do hope she meets some inmates who help her to realize just how tough life can get, and maybe it will encourage her to use her money and status for some good.

I also think that women should be punished the same as men- Isn't that why we've strived for equality for decades?

hmm. It is fair. Not all women are Delicate little females as you put it (by the way thats extremely sexist) some are cold blooded killers. But with Paris Hilton She broke the law, and needs to pay for what she did. She should not be released just because she is Paris Hilton. Then that could mean any celebrity could break the law and get away with it. What happens if she got in accident and killed someone like your mother? She deserves to pay.

Had it been you're regular Suzy nobody, she would have gotten the same sentence, but because it's Paris Hilton, she deserves preferential treatment?? House arrest isn't going to do anything!

All the money in the world, and the girl has absolutely no home training. She's reckless, and she needs a serious time out. Maybe 45 days in a cell will do some good.

Harsh is when she's too drunk to drive and she hits a kid. People have seen her screaming down Sunset, doing u-turns in the middle of the road during busy traffic. Karma will repay when she's too drunk to know where she's at and winds up in the wrong neighborhood.

Her parents would be like any other parent who doesn't want to see their kid go to jail, except they have deep pockets and influence.

A driver's license is a privilege. If her parents beg for some sort of pardon, Arnold's the last guy to be sympathetic.

She's not going to be in with the population, she'll prob. watch a lot of TV and they'll let her talk on the phone.

45 days is too long! After reading some of these answers, I'm sure that there are lots of women who hate Paris and would like to hurt her. Because of the overcrowded conditions, they'll have ample opportunity. Guards can't be everywhere to monitor everyone.
My son was in jail for stupidity. He ignored one too many parking violations. Jails were so overcrowded,he was let out early, but he learned to sleep standing up while leaning against the wall, never to loose sight of his shoes, how to shower while holding your shoes on top of your head. He learned you'll never see your own clothes again when you're released, and never to ignore a parking ticket..

if you commit a crime you have to deal with the consequences. who care how delicate the person is, they disobeyed the law. she knew she wasn't supposed to be driving and did it anyway. women should go to jail, and America is probably one of the least cruel places to woman out of the whole world. look how women are treated in other countries. you shouldn't be above the law because you are delicate. that is just plain ridiculous. if a women goes out and shoots some she should just get house arrest? no i don't think so. America isn't cruel to women. women who commit crimes go to jail. it is their fault not America's.

Some women aren't so sweet and innocent!

Are you serious? We have the (or are working towards ) eqaulity of genders before the law. You do the time you get the crime. Besides statistics prove women that are guilty of a crime are more likely to get off or get a reduced sentence as compared with their male counterparts. "Specifically, we find that the effect of gender on sentencing does vary by crime type, but not in a consistent or predicted fashion. For both property and drug offending, females are less likely to be sentenced to prison and also receive shorter sentences if they are sentenced to prison. For violent offending, however, females are no less likely than males to receive prison time, but for those who do, females receive substantially shorter sentences than males"

I think she deserves to go to jail. She thinks that because her daddy is rich she can get away with anything. Well her being able to get away with everything is not setting a good example for the little kids that look up to her. So by being punished maybe just maybe she will realize that daddy's money can't get her out of anything.
