I was in the same position you were in....you should see if your temp agency offers insurance...if not.....I'll give you phone numbers for a different option.

I told my job when I got hired...I figured it's better to be honest about it than to be sneaky and tell them once I got hired. Turned out they are really supportive of it, understand when I need to go to the doctors and what not. I just do my job, don't miss any days unless it's for the baby, bring dr's notes back to work with me for proof even though they don't ask for it.

If you do not get covered by the agency..try maternity card...

There number is 800-475-7015 there is a fee but it's better than nothing...seeing how I work full time and what not..I didn't qualify for medi-cal or what not.

There fee is 200 to start and 100 a month...not to much..give them a call and see what you think. Just ask them questions and what not.

Good Luck!

Get passport insurance until your insurance at work kicks in. You shouldn't wait to go to the doctor. I'm sure the doctors office can tell you where to apply for it. I would wait as long as possible to tell them. They may discreminate, all though that is illegal. Since it is temp to hire are you sure it is only 3 months till the insurance kicks in? The company I work for works the temps for 3 months then hires them and then it kick in 3 months after they are actually hired into the company. So it could possibly be 6 months....I would check on that.

I got hired the same week I conceived! I was low-key about my pregnancy until about 5 months, and then I came clean. It really does depend on your work situation and their health insurance policy. I'm under Blue Cross Blue Shield and it wasn't considered a "pre-existing condition" so my doctor's appointments are always covered. The only downside was having to wait about 4 months before everything regarding my insurance was cleared up. I would suggest you find out where your job's insurance is from and call up that company with your questions, especially if you don't want to go to your HR person right now. Depending on the job, your boss might be happy for you and allow you to keep working (mine did) or, if they're jerks, they might find any reason to fire you. My suggestion is to keep working and do the best you can...perhaps going above and beyond. I ended up getting a raise within 2 months of working there, so after my employees realized what an asset I am to the company, there was no temptation to fire me. When you finally announce your pregnancy to the boss (I would wait until after the first trimester, when the risk of miscarriage decreases), go talk to your boss in a professional manner. Have a plan mapped out...how long you plan to work, that you're willing to make up the hours you miss for your doctor's appointments, who you plan on having replace you and if you will provide that person any training before you go for maternity leave. Try to be as professional and responsible as possible so that you will not seem to be a slacker and they will not want to fire you (which they can do although they won't blame it on your pregnancy but on "other reasons.") Best of luck to you!

You don't have to tell them anything and I wouldn't, because even though it's illegal to discriminate on this basis, they do it all the time. I would check to see (discretely) is pregnancy is a pre-existing condition or not for the insurance. In some cases it is, in others not.
I think you can pretty much safely wait 3 months, though I probably wouldn't want to, esp if this is your first. There is just too much to learn. However, they didn't really do much for me before that except let me listen to his heartbeat.

This happened to me with my first pregnancy. I started a new job and found out 3 weeks later that I was pregnant. I was frantic--this was my first child, I wouldn't have insurance until the beginning of September (I found out I was preggo in June), and I'm epileptic, so my pregnancy was considered high risk. I did everything I could--called about Medicaid (made too much money at the time--I missed the cutoff amount by $100!!), went to low-cost clinics, etc. and nobody could help me. Even the clinics wanted cash up front (albeit not as much as a regular ob/gyn wanted.) I was a mess, really. Every ob/gyn's office I called said that for cash paying patients, $4,000 up front and the rest after delivery!!??!?!

FINALLY, my sister-in-law helped me out. She has a long-standing relationship with her ob/gyn, and she spoke with his office. They agreed to see me once a month (the standard for early pregnancy) at no-charge. They didn't do any tests (bloodwork, ultrasound, etc.) for those first few visits--mainly just listened to the baby's heartbeat, measured me and took a urine sample. Once my insurance kicked in, things went on as normal and I had typical appointments.

If I were you, I'd suggest doing this. Find a friend or family member who has a good, solid relationship with their doctor, and have them explain your situation to them. Have her tell them that you WILL be insured in a few months, but this is your first pregnancy and you're terrified. Ask if they can see you for a few simple "pro bono" appointments--just to ease your mind. Most doctors don't want to see you much before the beginning of your second trimester (12 weeks) anyway because there's nothing they can do for you. Most of the time, it's even very difficult to hear the baby's heartrate much before then. If you're going to miscarry, they can't help you with it at such a young gestation.

As for telling them--that really depends on your boss. Does he/she have kids, so will probably be understanding? Do most people in the office have kids? If so, I'd say yes--tell them. If you wait until you actually have the job, THEN tell them, they could fire you anyway for being dishonest. At least by telling them up front, it at least looks like you're trying to be honest. Regardless of what you do (tell them or not tell them) you're not guaranteed to have a job.

I truely believe that you should tell your new boss that you just found out you are pregnant. Legally they can not fire you just because of you being pregnant, it restricts you some but does not make you handicapped! As far as insurance, if you do not have any you can apply for emergency medicaid because of you being pregnant. Are you married? If yes, can you get medical coverage through your husband?
Good luck!

Funny you just asked this question. I was offered a job yesterday and now they are not returning my calls or e-mails because I told them I was pregnant.

I thought it was against the law to not hire someone because of pregnancy. At least here in Canada it is considered discrimination.

The same just happened to me. You can get emergency/ maternal medicaid until you get insurance. I told my boss right away. I let him know that my appointments will be after work so it will not affect my job performance. I have a good relationship with my doctor (boss).

It depends what kind of job it is. If it's a laid back job like a restaurant or fast food I would tell. If it's corporate, business like, dress code, don't tell until you have to.Lagally they can't fire you because you're pregnant but, businesses find other ways, yet the same reason but, they wouldn't admit that. You don't have insurace at your job? I don't know about that part. Good luck and congrats
