Lost is an island where either they put people/things from failed genetic studies or being from outer space (the black cloud thing) and now generations later after trying to study, anyone going there is adversely affected, hence the death of mother's during birth, the sightings of the dead (who are not dead), etc.
Guess we won't find the truth until the series official end in 2010.

Crazily enough, it's actually making more sense to me. I still have questions but they're more focused now.
I still believe the Island was being used by the Dharma Group of scientific studies. I'm still not sure where the Others came from, but I now know they were there first. I still think all the weird events (Locke walking, Walt's ESP, Sun's baby being Jin's baby even though he's sterile, the smoke monster, the polar bears, the ship in the middle of the jungle) have something to do with the Island's electromagnetic field (remember helicopter chick saying her instruments went crazy and that when they first flew over, the Island wasn't there). In fact, I believe that's why Dharma chose the Island in the first place, just didn't quite work out like they thought it would.
I believe Locke may not be dead, that the Island's "power" may help to heal him (well, it made him walk). I also believe that last night Ben lost some of HIS power with the Others - that's why he shot Locke, because at that point, Locke could have easily taken over.
I don't believe in aliens, government cover-ups, or Purgatory. I think it's just one of those unexplored Islands that Hollywood has been making movies (Lost World ring a bell?) about for a long time. And regardless of what they say, Walt and Michael are still somewhere on that Island.

Good theory Brother! (sounds so Desmond) I had thought they were all in the moment of death-either getting reincarnated or moving to the collective one. But now, I think that isn't the case. The producers have said that the show will end in 48 episodes so they have time to play out the mythological and paranormal path they set.
I am leaning to paranormal again-reading up on paranormal studies from the 60's. One big theory out at that time was that you could tap into other planes with the use of electromagnetic fields, gee that seems familiar on Lost. And that these taps would allow some to see or hear people who have died. This is also when the first hints of Cryptozoology started to appear. I think the timing of the stations is important. It think the natives as Ben called them are tied to the ship wreck (remember the ship that was used to transport slaves). I think that Ben is using possibly a little Hoodoo or Voodoo on Jacob (the ash around the cabin and the liquid containers at the windows) to keep Jacob to himself. Remember how excited the Native got when Ben said he saw his mother and she spoke? That was as interesting to him as the John hearing Jacob was to Ben. The show is very religious-just a broad blend of religions. I love it. Finally a show for intelligent people capable of following an involved plot! Let the masses have the mind numbing crap like Idol-those of us who love a good mystery are hooked!

Jacob is at least partly the source of the islands powers. The island doesn't heal people like Locke or Rose; Jacob does.
Ben derives his power from Jacob, but has kept him a captive. Jacob has been guiding Locke so that Locke can free him.

That is pretty much what I got from it. But am I wrong to think that this whole lost show is the story about jacob and his brother? Its a island that is the half way point from this life to the next. And it is the job of the one person to keep it safe and when it is time for that one person to die they have to have a replacement. and it goes on and on and on.

I would say that the writers are making this stuff up on the fly and they are laughing themselves sick.
