A lot of these guys are not even in the ball park.
Bonds:
The book Game of Shadows is full of sh!t. The guy used all of
3 years total. He did not use any steroids prior to that or someone would have blabbed on this guy eons ago.
McGwire:
That big red cracke head loser used all but two years of his career. People on here have forgotten about the drugs he used with Canseco long before he got into using andro which is a illegal substance in every sport know to man.
If I had to pick, I would pick short time user Bonds for the hall.

Honestly I think that Barry Bonds started using performance enhancement drugs just slightly after the year that both Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire were breaking the single season home run mark of 61. With Mark McGuire I would say that he was probably using them a little bit longer then Barry Bonds. If I had to vote one or the other I would vote Barry Bonds simply because he still had the better overall numbers then McGuire did even before he started using the performance enhancers.

Barry - when he went from looking like a runner to a power lifter. so probably 5-7 years.
Mark - Before he was with the Cardinals. Just didn't get the swing down until then.
Vote Mark in because he isn't as cocky as Barroids and once he realized everyone knew he did them he left, unlike like Bonds. Although, both of these players are very talented, no cheater should be in the Hall. Makes MLB look bad.

Barry Bonds most likely used illegal substances for about 4-5 years because of how he did in his best years.
Mark Mcgwire(probably not the correct spelling) probably used illegal substances for 2-3 years. I mean look at the years where he hit 70 and in the 50s, there's some sort of indication or hint of when he used them.
I would vote Barry Bonds because he even though they both admitted that they used illegal subtances, Barry Bonds has told a lot of controversial truths but he probably wants to be forgiven.

Barry Bonds -- never tested positive nor caught red handed. Mentioned in a book whose authors supposedly had "leaked" grand jury testimony. So, there isnt anything conclusive to say he took steroids or HGH. How long? I would say never. If at all, only the year he broke single season record. No way he can continue to hit and play at this age if he had been using steroids or HGH for a long period of time.
Mark McGuire - he's tested positive for andro and been a spokesman for andro for years. As far as steroids he was never tested positive. However, his career was cut short and if you look at him now he is a mess. He's also mentioned in Jose Canseco's book in which Canseco said he and Mark shot steroids together since they were teammates in Oakland. So, I would say about 8-10 years use for Mark.

I think Bonds started using as soon as he got to SF in '93. I believe McGuire even earlier than that...possibly late '80's. Just based on physical appearance & what I've read etc. If I could only pick one to go to the hall it would be Bonds b/c he was more of a 5-tool player (weak arm maybe 4-tool?) who probably would have been a HOF'er anyway.

Barry Bonds 4 years and Mark McGuire 5 years
Bonds, if you look at his stats they are more consistent than McGuire's with only one year over what the rest of them were. i believe that both are guilty and have hurt baseball but you said hypothetically would be the only way for a time he should get there.\or any one that did the same.

Obviously, I have no way of knowing any more than anyone else, but my guesses are that they both started around the mid-90's. If you could go back and look at their pictures "through the years" you could probably figure it out by seeing which was the first year they were oddly bigger than previous seasons. I remember when they used to be so thin and lanky.
If I HAD to vote one of them into the hall of fame, I would probably vote for McGuire. I don't really have a particular reason why, other than the fact that I like him better as a person. He quietly faded into the sunset after all this steroid talk, but Bonds has continued to try to defend himself and berate others while chasing a historic record, and he just irritates me.

Barry Bonds, from 1999 to 2004 (according to the book, "Game of Shadows", he started taking roids after the 1998 season)
Mark McGwire, from 1992 to 2000
I like McGwire a lot better, but Bonds was a clear-cut hall-of-famer before he ever juiced, so I would vote for him.

Both probably used steroids for maybe 4-6 years, based on their appearances and stats.
Bonds would get my vote for hall of fame, no question. He's hit for average and power consistently, even when he's obviously not on steroids. (He can't be taking anything illegal this year, and he's still batting well over .300 and leads the NL in homeruns with 11 - at age 42 no less.)
