I just saw this on snopes.com. Do you think the national news should have covered this or not? Why or why not?

Thanks for all serious answers! :)

I am not sure why I shoudl be offended by the lack of national coverage on this. As the article mentioned, the sad truth is that terrible things happen every day.

National news is supposed (in my opinion) to give me a sense of what is going on, of things that may affect my life, of issues we as a country are facing so I can be ready, etc.

It is not to dip into every horrible tragedy that has few, if any, national repurcussions. In fact, I am actually grateful that I am spared a lot of this. Hearing about something like this every day would quickly become too depressing.

What REALLY offends me is the celebrity coverage. If I really cared about Paris or any of those people, I could certainly find out what I wanted to know. I don't need it covered as if it were news.

You didn't see the story in the mainstream national media due to political correctness. It's the same reason most people have never heard of Jesse Dirkhising. Not a familiar name, is it.

Well, Jesse Dirkhising was a 13 year old boy who lived in Arkansas. In 1999, this boy was tied up with his underwear taped inside his mouth, repeatedly raped while being filmed by his torturers, then murdered by 2 homosexual lovers, Joshua Macave Brown, 22, and Davis Don Carpenter, 38, who pleasured themselves as they were doing this unspeakable act. Both received life in prison.

If a person was to watch the liberal media (almost all news channels in the US), they would think that only straight white people committed horrible crimes.

I read that. That is a horrible and heinous crime.Instead of focusing on the color of the individuals that did it. Look at the crime, do you feel the same disdain when a white serial murderer is on the loose killing innocent people? Or a serial rapist or pedophile brutually kills a child. Do you call them apes and animals? The white community should stand up and have advocates speak out when things like this happen in your community. Nancy Grace does take on different types of heinous crimes and issues. But to make it fair.. Although slavery is in the past. If we took those numbers and added them to White on Black Crimes, there would be no graph to measure White on Black crimes.

Read below
****Written by a white person****

The whole idea that the news media is ignoring this horrific crime based on color, is as stupid as the crime its self. How any one can think that the news media would pass up a chance to show crimes commited by 5 black men and women, is beyond any normal thinking. Black on white violence, would make for great headlines, especially with the state of racial tension today. Why do people focus so much on color, instead of on the fact that two young HUMAN BEINGS were stripped of their lives. Would it be any better, if it were 5 white men and women that did the killings. Would their families suffer any less? People are quick to call them animals, not for what they did, but for being black. Jeffry Dhamer (i know i goofed his name) cut off penises, poured acid into heads, ate human flesh, and organs, but i am sure most white americans were not out for blood, or calling him an animal. Why, could it be, due to the fact the majority of his crimes were against gay black males? A crime is a crime, no matter what race the criminal is. Something to think about

This is the first I heard of this story (as I assume like many others) and I literally now feel ill. This is a horrible, horrible thing that happened, and I sincerely hope that the people arrested and found responsible get the death penalty. Not that that will change the fact it happened...but still..

As far as nationwide coverage goes- I think that this should have made news at least in the Southeastern states, and should have been brought to the attention of Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton (Sharpton in particular) and asked what their opinions are on it.

The race issue in this story is a touchy one for me....I feel that man, regardless of skin color, is capable of crime, and should be punished, again, regardless of skin color. However, I think that 5 blacks killing two whites is something that, in lieu of recent racism in the news, should be brought to the table for discusson.

I think that blacks are tarnished by acts like this, just as whites are tarnished by things that happend to Imus....

These individuals should be punished to the full extent of the law, and America should know that no matter what we try to do to help countries half way accross the world, we have MANY issues that need attention here in America, and we have citizens losing lives because of nappy headed thugs like this.

Yes, I said nappy.

those thoughts are no longer to any extent further information worth because of the fact different issues have take place in the media. so as existence is going on, so does the media. What approximately Lisa Ling's sister and chum who're trapped in a North Korean paintings camp (Laura Ling and Euna Lee). those are U.S. electorate that desire international relatives. additionally, there have been various tragedies in and around the U.S. I, too, desire that we lived in a society that may not in consistent chaos. Chaos would not have something to do with ethnicity.

WOW if that is all true! but I am not suprised by lack of media coverage. Those apes need to be slowly tortured and set on fire themselves.

EDIT: DRUMBUM comparing this to IMUS is just plain pathetic. Not even the same thing at all!!!!
