I had a car that used to eat Halogen bulbs. Two things helped.
1 make sure the headlamp is securely mounted and not subject to vibration, knocks from bonnet closure &c. ( I think the bonnet mounted lamps on the first new mini were vulnerable)
2 Make sure the light unit is sealed properly. I don't know why but condensation inside the unit seemed to shorten the bulb life considerably

I would forget about sidelight bulb, and sort out the problem you obviously have with your dipped beam circuit. You shouldn't have to keep changing bulbs.
