i think that in awfully good idea to declaw cats...there are some down sides to it though.

I think it's completely unnecessary to declaw cats. As long as they have plenty to scratch on, and their nails are clipped once in a while I don't see the need for them to go through the declawing process.

I wouldn't do it. They might need their claws someday.

Also I understand it's kind of an extreme procedure, basically they take off the cat equivalent of the whole finger up to the first joint.

Mine have torn some stuff up but I'm, ah, not a fussy housekeeper anyway.

I've heard there's some little plastic or maybe rubber caps you can get and just put on their claws. If it mattered I'd probably go in for that solution.

Declawing procedure is very painful to the cat. Plus it's a form of amputation, because they use these claws for running and climbing...and if the cat is an outdoor cat, for defense and hunting. Stick with the nail clippers!

I had a housecat declawed, she was fine, if rather upset and had her nose out of joint for awhile after recovery, it's ok to do that for a cat that is in the house all the time, and if you only have the front claws done kitty still has some form of defense if she gets out....

Declawing a cat is okay if you keep your cat indoors all the time. However, if you let it go outside, it will have lost its main way to defend itself.

So my opinion is, if it's an indoor-cat, then sure get it declawed if you want.

I think it is inhumane to declaw a cat. You render them defenseless when you do that to them.

well if its an indoor cat definately declaw because if it has claws it can ruin furniture and other stuff. but if its an outdoor cat you should just cut the nails every so often. this way they can still defend them selves outside and climb trees and have fun being a cat.

I believe it's an extremely cruel procedure which should not happen. How would you like it if someone ripped your nails out?
