The software used in these typs of jobs are very complex and requires a lot of work, I know because I am a senior graphic design student. If you just want the basics try learning Microsoft Publisher, get a good book and do the tutorials and you will be able to produce some good looking flyers, brochures etc.

Graphic Design is like any other academic studies. It requires firstly drawing skills, innovative ideas and theory of typography. You need talent for this, this will determine your taste in colours, shapes, typography and good eye for photography. Thats no fast way to learn any subjects. But enjoy the journey. You can go to http://www.commarts.com to check out what Graphic Design is all about and show your portfolio there. But as everyone would say, never try never know. Hope this helps!

Best way is by doing it and learning as you go along - gather brochures/business cards that you like and use the recipe to create new ones.

There are loads of support notes on the internet but it's best just to get started and make mistakes. Practice on real clients that perhaps aren't as important - local boy scouts poster or church fayre poster or friend's new business card etc and learn as you go along from the feedback you get.

There are technical schools that may help you with things like that, For instance, where I live I have Kaw Area Techincal School(KATS for short). So you may want to try something like that. You may be able go there while you are in school. I know here you can go to KATS for a half a day then go back to high school for the rest of the day. Try something like that Good luck
