Keep everything clean and in tightly closed containers.
I've heard than ants will not cross a chalk line or a line of red pepper. Find where they are coming in the house and put the chalk or pepper line there. Good luck.

hire a coach or to be really humane a limo, invite them for a night on the town, take them for drinks, a nice meal (maybe italian if they like spaghetti) go for a show, I hear Miss Saigon is good. After the show, a club, cocktails have a dance. Then when they're all dancing run out of the club, jump into the limo and go home -QUICKLY- lock your door and especially the kitchen door.

Now Ants are very small so they should find it difficult leaving the club, but in case they get a taxi back to yours it might be worth changing the locks. If they do ever get back to yours close the curtains, they'll get bored and go elsewhere.

(I've never done this with ants but it worked with a foreign student who used to live with me - I often wonder where Pablo is now)

Richard Feynman (Manhattan Project physicist) toyed with ants. He found that they will find a food source and all the ants will go to it in single file (following a scent trail). He cleaned the trail, the ants got confused at the end of the scent trail and eventually left. Ants can be persistent. Even mal-intentions sometimes won't get rid of them. Good luck.

Maybe you could leave a trail of oatmeal and spaghetti leading from your kitchen to your neighbors so the ants will follow it out of your house.

If that doesn't work you should get those ant-bait units. They have yummy grease and sugar in them mixed with poison that the ants take back to their nest to kill them all there.

If you ever invite friends to eat at your house and they find insects crawling all over the food you are preparing for them - at that point you will need to decide whether ants or people deserve more humane treatment in your life.

maximum humane way is to get rid of ALL stray nutrition (alongside with tiny crumbs). be sure all nutrition is thoroughly sealed... truly sugary meals. I as quickly as had an exceptionally thorough sparkling, doing away with all tiny bits of nutrition and emptying the bin greater many times, and that they left after some days. although on yet another party i found out in yet another abode that their nest became under the refrigerator so this technique did no longer artwork.

Find out the name of the ant god, then ask him/her to spare your oatmeal/spagetti.

Or keep a very clean kitchen.

Oddly enough, ants hate cinnamon. Sprinkle a little around and watch them scatter.
