My fiance is VERY determined to get me to move to his home state of Maine. I am originally from Baltimore, Maryland. I have visited Maine a few times and it IS very nice. I guess the dilemma I have may be more psychological than anything. My family is here in Baltimore, my fiance has limited family in Maine....they are mostly estranged. I'd love to live and raise my children in a better environment just need that extra push i guess.

I'm from the Rockville area of Maryland myself. Never been to Maine, so I don't think I could say hey! do this! But if you're just starting out, who says that whatever you pick now will be the only place you end up? You may wish to sit your fiance down and ask him why he prefers Maine over Maryland - is it a rural vs. urban thing? Is it a security thing? Has he been with you in Maryland and met your family?
It's a complex question, but ultimately you should have a discussion to weigh each persons reason for living in which state. Go with which ever 'argument' makes more sense and feels right!

I like Baltimore, myself, but then I also liked Maine. Having family nearby is pretty useful, especially if you're planning on having kids. To a degree it depends on where in Maine you're going - the coast and central Maine are a lot less densely populated than Baltimore, but compared to northern and inland Maine, they're like an urban jungle.. If you're a city girl, like my wife, you might want to think very carefully about it. I sympathize with your husband - I grew up in the country, and really don't like living in the city, but it turned out I could manage city living a whole lot better than my wife could handle living in the country. You may find that you grow to love the quietness and more relaxed atmosphere; it's hard to predict, but if you move to Maine, I would recommend a firm agreement with your fiance that a final decision not be made for several years. Circumstances change, like jobs, babies, etc. Also, marriage is a team effort; you don't want resentments from the start - hash it over thoroughly, and don't just do something because one of you is determined to do it. Would he do it for you?

What part of Maine? I live in New Hampshire and need to get out of here for a few years, off to San Diego for me.

But in the end I love New England and will probably end up back here. Its peaceful for the most part, beautiful, and weve got great schools. I assume the town youre moving to in Maine is safe..so keep that in mind. Go with your heart.
