You go ahead, have a try at what you are talking about.

Just be careful - you might have insulted the person doing whatever they were doing. A lot of people will say 'have at it' because they tried and couldn't do whatever it was - and you have given them something saying you could do it - and so they say 'have at it' meaning they have given up - if you can do it - then go ahead and do it.

Usually when some one tells you to" have at it " they really mean "go for it ", try, or they could be being sarcastic when they say it, which might mean "you think you know so much you do it".

It is one of those things people don't think about, that it makes no sense but ithey say it anyway. Yet, it means "go for it".

it means to " go for it", "go ahead", "do it", etc. It's giving you permission to do what you've asked to do.
