Crusty -- The people of the UK were put off a bit with Blair's following America's lead in the Middle East. He had available knowledge from the start that had concluded there was no danger from Saddam yet he decided to align his country with US. He fell into the black hole of Bush's agenda proving he was a sucker. And therefor blighted the image of his country.

Is it right for him to stay? He has been the prime minister of UK for 10 years now. That's a pretty long time! He has already initiated British withdrawal from Iraq (see link)- there are only a few thousand troops there now from his country.

I agree that it would be bad form if he would have left in the midst of the initial invasion, but that was several years ago. It is time to let someone up take up the reigns of power. The same is probably true for America!

It's a British tradition, abandoning a sinking ship.
Britain has had three fiasco's in Iraq in the past hundred years. They used poison gas on civilians in 1917 and kidnapped Sadaams father in 1942.

As for catastrophies look up the British fiasco's in Afghanistan. The First Afghan War was a real whopper.

It is no different than the fact that Bush will be leaving before the war is over also. His time is up and so it's time for Blair to step down. He seems like a decent guy.

Tony Blair can hold his head up and be proud that he could see the threat that islamic jihadism presents to the world. His enemies are either supporters of islamic terrorism or ignoramuses incapable of deciphering "Death to Democracy". When a group advocates your destruction it is probably best to take it seriously when plots like blowing up airliners over the Atlantic or crashing them into buildings full of people to cause maximum deaths are continually in the planning stage.

Burying one's head in the sand can be beneficial to hide from reality, but you might get bit in the *ss.

Blair knows it's time to go because he has lost favor with the people.

Of course it is. By the way, there has been progress. And I am touched that you are concerned with his sleep.
