It has gotten worse since 10 years ago..and gets worse as women get older and have more education. Since affirmative action is the other side of that same coin, how do we close the wage gap for women, without creating laws that mandate it? Currently women earn about 73 cents to every dollar a man earns for the same job...one solution I have is to charge women less for goods and services...if they earn on a sliding scale, they should pay on a sliding scale...

Like I said, it gest WORSE with additional education, NOT BETTER. And the government isn;t the one paying less...the free market is. There is no law regarding this...or at least there is no enforcement

man, I wish i had the link...it was in the news on Yahoo a couple of weeks ago...but it takes into account women who have children and families...and they still couldn;t figure out the 25% of us that didn;t fit into that category...

RLP, you did manage to get around to the question...but you are confusing WOMEN with MOTHERS, and we are not all the same. Now, if MOTHERS werepadi less, fine. But it is all women, and I hope you click on the link and read the article.

Oh, and because I work, my man can concentrate on his production company and getting that to take off. So not all of our families operate the same way. I am sorry your husband had to do it all, but my fiance has been liberated by my abiltiy AND desire to work.

RLP, you misunderstood. I am done trying, we are off topic about your personal situation, and I asked a question how we close the wage gap. Perhaps more women would only commit to part time if they were paid fairly. Then your husband wouldn't have to do it all AT WORK (what I was talknig about)

Since women are earning 73 cents on the dollar for what men earn, why aren't only women getting hired?

From what I have heard, men and women get paid the same at the same jobs, but men tend to hold higher-paying positions, so the TOTAL amount made by women is about 73% of that for men.

Here is an article, that's a few years old, but addresses the "glass ceiling myth"

You as a working woman will not like my answer...

Working Moms who CHOOSE to work have been a problem for MY family since my husband had his first job. He is able to TOTALLY focus on his job because I take care of basically EVERYTHING at home. Working Moms still have to worry about home AND work...that is VERY UNFAIR to the men they work with.

I can't even BEGIN to tell you the MANY times my husband has had to pick up the slack from the Moms in his offices. Makes me sick...
Mom gets a call that little Johnny is sick and has to pick him up from school...but wait...she had a meeting scheduled at 4 PM that day...not a problem RLP's husband will just have to cover and come home late to see HIS kid's baseball game. He planned to come home early and then could not. My husband is an amazing man who puts HIS family first...why should HE have to come late to a game because of some OTHER family?
I could list 1000 examples Heidi - this topic infuriates me!

EDIT - he has worked with single women who are dedicated to their careers UNTIL they get married - then their jobs are just a paycheck and are "sometimes" not as dedicated - sometimes they ARE...

It is time for all underdogs in the world to get together and turn many things around, wage disparity being a problem for all, especially women.

Get government out of the way and allow the free market to do it's job.

Unfortunately, I can't help but think that legislation is the only answer to the problem. It's really a pity that the ERA wasn't ratified!

I have worked with woman profesionally and see no gap in income at all. I suspect aggregate statistics here cannot explain the gap, so, people might consider the gap unfair, when, in fact, it might be totally justified.

with all the maternity leave and other perks they get the wage gap isn't suprising.

Give men a paternity leave and all will be well.

**can't beleive i'm saying that**
