An ad hominem attack is against the person instead of the argument. Personally, I simply consider the source and go about my business.

I agree on considering the source and try not to take things personally. However, it does still disturb me that people want to make a personal judgment on others. No question is stupid if someone cannot figure out the answer by themselves. Why can't answerers take time to realize that and just have the attitude of wanting to help others instead of bashing them?

Examples that really bother me: Putting someone down for their use of English, knowing full well this site goes well beyond the USA and other English speaking areas. We should applaud attempts of others trying to use English as a second language instead of judging them for imperfections with our language.

Putting someone down for the fact that they have religious beliefs knowing full well that the vast majority of humankind believes in some type of religion. We should all respect the right to believe in whatever we choose, whether that be an organized religion, personal faith, and/or anti-religious beliefs like atheism or agnosticism.

I just wish more and more people would stop the ad hominem attacks on here. I also wish that our society as a whole would evolve to understanding and accepting rather than judging or prejudging others.

At first, yes, but then I see who's answering and can tell that they are trying to project their self-image on to anyone that they can use as a target. I would be sad for them, but I'm not smart enough to have empathy, apparently.

I think you're smart, Buzzy. You rock!
