Actually, dog's do have whiskers. The whiskers themselves do not have nerve endings. At the base of the whiskers there is a large nerve supply which prompts the canine to close his eyes to avoid injury. When the whiskers brush up against something the dogs eyes will immediately close. You should not allow a groomer to cut your dogs whiskers as some of them will do this for appearance. .Good question .laceyemerill

They do! Sometimes they're trimmed for various reasons, but all dogs have whiskers.
Dogs use their whiskers to sense the area around their muzzles (kind of a form of depth perception). Need proof? Trim your dog's whiskers and then watch him try to get a drink for the first time.
The whiskers also help gather scent.

Is the answer really important to you?
They don't need them. They are not nocturnal animals. They are diurnal and therefore, unlike cats, do not need the whiskers to tell them they are touching something. Whiskers are "feelers" connected by very senistive nerve endings.

Because that's cat food silly. Why would you feed a dog cat food, it's not even the right nutrients because it's cat food little boy. :)
Unless you mean the vibrissae then they are for survival. Air currents and the like that brush against them.
