Let me see if I understand this....you are condemning people for fascination with a people that once existed while you're hooked on imaginary people created by writers in California, and then expressed your opinion when it wasn't asked for.
The Vikings are just as fascinating to some people as the Romans, Greeks, Japanese, Indians, and Civil War soldiers. If none of that interests you, then kindly watch TV and leave others alone. And while you're at it, stop writing nasty emails saying I can't express an opinon while you can.

Lets start this one off by saying they are "Northmen" not Vikings. You go a Viking, you aren't a Viking.

Viking means that you are going to go to sea for trade or raid. Its not the person involved.

Now why they where so cool

1. First people to sail around the world. This is proven by they where in Americas first and in Mongolia there is a burial site with two viking longboats and the people in that area show signs of viking ancestors.

2. The Vikings were amazing traders and warrior. Fear from Copenhagen (the city not the dip) to all of the Mediterranean and down and around the coast of africa.

3. As far as fighters go, very few people had the raw power a Viking had and here is why. Most people in the time where between 5' and 5'4" for the men, people where small. Vikings on the other hand easily topped 6' and up and where massive fighters.

4. Technology of the time, you should see the tech they had as far as thier boats and seaman ship. Amazing people. Not strong on deep water but they knew the coast lines like the back of thier hands. All the coastlines.

5. Thier favorite pass time was sacking castles from england to the turkish empire. Thats just cool

These are just a few reasons.

You are uneducated in this matter and likely influenced by some pop-culture misunderstanding of who the Viking people (Danes, Norwegians, Swedes and certain Germanic tribes) were and their historical significance. Look at the Goth movement, for example. The two main tribes were of Germanic origin: The Ostrogoth's and Visigoths. The leader of the Visigoths, Alaric, liberated Spain and Portugal from the Moors. (Well, when he got finished sacking Rome.) The Goths were far closer to Vikings than to Vampires!

There is another significance in the revived interests in Viking culture (which was far more sophisticated than you know), and morality (which is more realistic, pragmatic and honest than any doctrine of the alleged Christ).

They were a great people. They were warriors who believed in the ancient gods and thought a death in battle was the best way to go.

I agree with all of this.

Mr Eko on the other hand was a character in a rubbish TV show.

Evaluate the culture from the ancient perspective and compare it to the current one ... it is really no different ... rob and rape baby ... through current oil prices, government or even street prices for drugs. It is all about the strong prevail and the weak being consumed. Get over it.
