I think it's an east coast thing.
It's named for the sound a goose makes, thus the flying goose as the symbol.
My theory is it's good for drunks because when cops ask where you are going, it's easy to say wawa without sounding drunk.

Wow, I looked at the answers before I answered this. I guess it is just an East Coast thing. Wawa is the best place. I don't have them in North Western New Jersey, but everytime I am at the shore, I am always going to Wawa. Last summer, they even had the cheapest gas!

Yeah I'm from TX and I never heard of it until I moved to maryland and I was asking someone I worked with how to get somewhere and they said "oh just go down to the wawa and turn left".... i was totally confused so yeah i think its just east coast

Its not even East Coast. Its mostly in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware. Wawa is my savior.

Wawa is one of the best convenient stores around. Sandwiches are a man's best friend on roadtrips. Always stop there.

Our here, we have primarily AM/PM and 7-11 stores...plus a host of other gas station convenience stores. To me, wawa is what a toddler calls water.

Isn't that a GAS station/ convience store. Saw it in Delware, and yes it a East Coast thing, because I've been to Chicago and Atlanta and I don't see them there.
You should be proud, it these little things that make you who you are and totally DUMBFOUND an outsider. LOL
