They are, I know and most adults know. But why do you all think our children have fallen behind?

I agree with micshys on the whole part about kids watching TV and such that is very true. However money is not the answer, yes it is crazy that a school superidendent makes $350,000 or where I went to highschool last year our athletic director makes 90,000 which should never happen when teacher are only making 45000. However money doesnt do that much if no cares, chinese and japanese schools spend far less then the US yet they are much more intelligent. Its just that parents and the whole american media need to be fixed. Parents do not hit their children anymore there for they have no fear so they wont do any school work because nothing bad will really happen maybe a harsh talking to and taking away TV for a few days . Then the american culture with the media tell young kids its "cool" to be a dumb gangster makes kids want to be like rappers. Then other media teaches kids that clothes and popularity, materialistic things are more imporant then their actual education.

It saddens me so much when I see the deterioration of our school system. Some try to get in there and fix things but a lot of the problem is about money. Where I live they scream about needing more money while the superintendent of schools makes $350,000 a year. Why? Throw out the art and music and activities that make school more interesting but pay the big bucks to the big guy. If high school was run more like a college campus I believe there would be fewer drop-outs. It is a pathetic society that takes the mothers out of the homes and replaces their loving care with electronic devices because the mothers are just too tired after all day at work. If they could stay home, turn off the games and TV, and put all that talent they use in the work place on to their children, what a better world it would be. This is the electronic, fast food society and it is sad. People don't know how to interact on an intelligent level any more and the families have forgotten what good home cooking really is. Too bad. Mmm From what I understand, there is so much pressure on the Japanese children to succeed that the suicide rate is quite high. There must be a balance between too much and too little. People in general are more into their own pleasure here rather than what is good for our society and the future of the United States. This is the here and now generation without thought of what our future generations are going to face. Can you see our young people today being leaders in the world? Nations are always destroyed from within and we could change it if we would. Another thing is focusing on the testing system rather than preparing the children for life. Parents don't stand behind the teachers anymore. Teachers have to be so careful the way they talk also. Rather than saying, "Your kid is out of control and is being a real brat", they have to say something like, "Oh my, he has a lot of energy, doesn't he". If you want a miserable kid then give him too much control with too little guidence. I could go on lol. Mmm

The current administration's opposition to science doesn't help things a bit. The idea that creationism is even being considered as a viable scientific alternative is patently absurd. There are adults out there who are so ignorant as to believe in creationism (including Bush himself), so it's no surprise their children are ignorant too.

Some have speculated that the advancement in computer technology is a direct result of the US government pouring money into science due to the Cold War space race. Wouldn't it follow that making education (especially the hard sciences) a very low priority could have a negative impact on us years from now?

The fact that our teachers are just above the poverty line doesn't help much either. My g/f teaches 5th grade. She can't afford to buy even a tiny little house. She has a graduate degree and is working on a PhD. As a PhD she will make about the same amount as someone who performs data entry.

The No Child Left Behind Act is a joke. Teachers now have to spend so much time "teaching to the test" that they can cover no other material.

I suppose this is a present worldwide fashion. I suppose Americans have become dumber in exact fields like Math, Science and science, at the same time fields like banking, finance have remained unaffected. I studied Computer Engineering in a University in Nigeria for a few years earlier than I came around to a US institution, and my private enjoy (and my grades) exhibit that the coursework is certainly a few stages less complicated over right here within the U.S. Similar statements may also be made while evaluating coursework in India, China and Japan. On the opposite hand, there's a consistent mind drain from in every single place the arena to the US within the technology and math fields as enormous quantities of individuals migrate from international locations like China and India to the US to begin new lives every yr, so I dont suppose the US will lose its technological area for a few a long time a minimum of. In truth, take a walk by way of the College of Engineering constructions of so much schools within the US and u will see a dominance of Asian pupils (When China will get their act entirely in combination, its over=)

Our Government has lowered the standards of our education system.Certain groups of people complained the tests were too hard. They complained about College entrance exams. Certain groups of people have different requirements for College. While some may need a 350 GPA others need a 250 GPA. Can you believe I wrote all that and never said black?
