...that is opening your mail to supposedly pay your bill, but is really looking to see who you are talking to? I need help and really want to press charges. Is this possible? I know it is a crime to open someone's mail, but how do you prove it and press forward?

PS. I did NOT authorize ANYONE to open my mail and I PAY my own bills. I have a jealous bouyfriend that recently started to open my cell phone bill. I make less money than him and pay ALL the bills. Please don't answer if you have a sarcastic answer. Thanks.

While it is a crime to open someone else's mail, suing your boyfriend may not be the best course of action. Move your mailing address to your office or get a PO Box. Better yet if you are considering suing your BF just for opening your mail, then I suppose getting rid of him won't be a problem.**

A better solution would be to kick your jealous boyfriend out or move out yourself and if you don't have a mail box that locks, get one.

Another alternative is that almost all companies have the option of going paperless and having a statement or notice of a new statement online sent to you e-mail.

You could file a complaint with the U.S. Postal Service, but if he is living at the same address and he is not opening the bills to get checks or obtain personal information so he can swipe your identity, they are not likely going to do anything as it will be your word against his and they have much more pressing problems since 9/11.

You gave them permission to open your mail, so you can't. If you tell them they can no longer open your mail then maybe there is something you can do, but I doubt it. Pay your own bill, change the address it is mailed to. Have it sent to a friends house. Someone who won't snoop.
