I would go in a flash! As long as they let me on the ship, I don't care if I dropped dead setting foot on another planet, as long as I could!
Call me a romantic, and sorry for the Star Trek reference, but space exploration is the next frontier and the greatest of all, and I would forfeit body parts for the chance to be a part of it.
This is kind of like Louis Armstrong's famous answer to the question, What are 'The Blues': Man if you gotta ask, you ain't never gonna know!

No I would not and here is why. It takes 6 months to get to Mars from Earth(roughly). That means that the mission would entail 1 year of travel time. To make it worth the effort they would have to stay on Mars for a considerable length of time, so lets say they stay there for two years. Now the mission is three years long. No one knows how that kind of time away from our planet will affect a person emotionally or physically. Plus there is no way you could compensate me well enough to be away from my family for 3 years. And the food would have to suck. Any food that will lats 3 years in space is not going to be gourmet cuisine. All that for what, to see that there is not much going on up there. I know it is interesting to explore other worlds but there is nothing happening on Mars that will change the lives of humans on Earth for ever. If there were little green men up there, I would probably reconsider.

If it was 100% safe, yes. But I don't see this happening for a very long time, if at all. It takes 6 /7 months just to get there. How are they going to deal with air, water, and food issues ? Not to mention waste...The person would have to be awake most of the time due to problems that might happen. They can't put you in a coma for six months. Once you land you have to stay there to make it worth the cost. Then you have to make it back in one piece. Sorry, I can't see this happening in our lifetime. I know people I'd like to send one way though ! LOL...

No. I mean I believe it would be a great honor to be one of the first humans to visit another world however, I am an individual who has to see something work time and time again to make sure things are relatively safe. I believe the first manned space is just to risky. It would be so many unforeseen obstacles that would arise that in the future we would develop safe guards for those type of situations.

I wouldn't want to be on the first manned flight to
Mars only because something would probably go
wrong. Maybe if they had been there about 10 times
(you know work out all the problems) then I would
think about going.

I don't think I would. It is a two year mission. With as fast as rockets can travel, it is still a year there and a year back. I don't think I could leave my family for that long. If I had no ties on Earth, I sure would go.
I'm hoping to go into space, even just above the atmosphere, sometime before I die. And if I don't make it before I die, I want to go into space after I die.

Honestly i couldn't pass up an opportunity like that, just a chance to go into space. I bet it takes like 4 or 5 years to make the trip tho.

ABSOLUTELY! In 1988, I was actually part of a mission to the USSR to help promote a proposed joint manned mission to Mars between US & USSR -- one of my fondest memories. I love exotic places, and the idea of seeing something that no other person has seen LIVE before, to set foot where no human has before, is just an amazing enticement.

Why waste time? I have better things to do. Unless I get paid? Even then, I need to find out what I can do during the 2 years in the spaceship.

I dont think i would, because....it being the first trip it will probably be Expensive as crap and plus, since it has never been done before...risks of unexpected things are high!!! I would wait a few years and review the previous trips!!
