Jacob, previously known only as "Him", is the apparent leader of the Others and the person from whom Ben receives his orders. He was first mentioned by name by Danny Pickett in "I Do". According to Danny, Jack "wasn't even on Jacob's list."

In "Maternity Leave", Tom said "You know what he'll do when he finds out," implying that "he" is above both Tom and Ethan Rom in the Others' hierarchy.

Ben states in "Dave", "If I tell you about them, you don't know what he'll do!" and when threatened by Sayid, says "He'll kill me!" to which Sayid responds, "I'll kill you!". Since Ben still doesn't give an answer, it most likely means that he would rather die than disappoint "him". Ben also says that "the man with the beard" is "no one", implying that "he" is much higher in the Others' hierarchy. In "Two for the Road", he says that "he" is "a great man, a brilliant man, but not a forgiving man," and would kill him for failing his mission.

He was mentioned in "Par Avion" by Mikhail Bakunin, who said, "The man who brought me here, who brought all of my people here—He is a magnificent man."

Ben told Juliet that Jacob would heal Rachel's cancer if she stayed on the Island in "One of Us".

The name Jacob is also visible in the Room 23 video watched by Karl in the episode, "Not in Portland", where a title says "God loves you as He loved Jacob". In "Stranger in a Strange Land", when Sawyer and Kate are discussing returning to Hydra Island, Karl says "He'll kill you. God loves you as he loved Jacob".

Jacob was confirmed to be "him" In the 3/20/07 Official Lost Podcast.

Ben took Locke to see Jacob in "The Man Behind the Curtain", leading him to a dilapidated-looking cabin deep in the jungle. Ben is at first hesitant to do this, saying that Jacob is not someone one visits; one is summoned by Jacob instead. Inside the cabin they find a seemingly empty chair next to a table. Ben introduces the chair's invisible, or nonexistent, occupant as Jacob. Locke does not believe there is anyone there, even as Ben seems to have an animated conversation with Jacob. When Locke attempts to leave he hears the words "Help me." When Locke turns back around and turns on his flashlight, things in the room begin to shake and objects get thrown about by an unknown force (this may have something to do with Jacob's apparent dislike of technology, which Ben notes right before they enter the cabin). Ben attempts to stop Jacob, but he is forcibly thrown against a wall. In the midst of this a brief image of a man, Jacob, can be seen.

1. My favourite character is Desmond. I think he's a brilliant character and very interesting - he's got that whole history with Charles Widmore which I'm sure will have more significance in future episodes. Eloise Hawkins said that the island wasn't finished with him yet which is interesting too - not least because it means that he will be back again at some stage! 2. Least favourite character is John Locke. I know he's an important character in terms of all the strange stuff going on with the island but I just find him dull and patronising. 3. I love the whole time travel element and I'm intrigued by Richard Alpert - the guy never ages!!! Which now makes more sense because of the time travel. His connection to Jacob is pretty interesting too and just what did he do to save 12 year old Ben's life...??? 4. I miss Charlie the most. I thought he was a really good character - he wasn't particularly involved in the whole mystery of the island, nor was he a major player in everything that was going on with 'the Others' - but he was a good character with a lot to offer and he was so sweet with Claire and Aaron. His final sacrifice was so sad but I did get a bit panicked when I thought Desmond was going to sacrifice himself instead.....

Jacob is the leader of the others. Ben has always alluded to the fact that he is not the head person in charge. If you remember at one point when Sawyer is about to be killed by the others, one of the others makes reference to the fact that Jack wasn't on Jacob's list. There's always been a list...of who is good and who is evil I think. I always believed that the list determined who was going to die or be attacked by the smoke monster. Remember, Echo was only killed because he wouldn't repent his sins. Is Jacob good or evil...we don't know. I think Walt was kidnapped so that the Others could see if he could "see" Jacob. Remember, Walt had those special abilities. Obviously, there is a little connection between Jacob and Locke because Jacob spoke to Locke and Ben was unable to hear him. Locke's natural affiliation with the island and his ability to miraculously "heal" on the island makes him a clear threat to Ben. I'm guessing we'll know more about Jacob soon.

You can actually see a glimpse of Jacob in that cabin. It passes very quickly though. There are screencaps floating around.

Unfortunatly, most of the information we've received about Jacob has been given by Ben, who we know is a big lyer. So, assuming that Ben is telling the truth, all we really know is that:

-Jacob put together the list of the 'worthy' Losties and Fusies.
-Jacob has some sort of healing powers (cured Juliet's sister's cancer)
-Ben is the only one who has ever seen Jacob
-I'm guessing that Jacob is the "him" that Benry mentioned in season 2. Something about him being a great man but unforgiving.

Unfortunately nobody knows. Hopefully we will find out more about him on the season finale or we may just have to wait until next season.
Though I'm starting to think that this Jacob guy and that "monster" thing may have something in common. I mean isn't it weird that the "monster" thing the 1st time did absolutely nothing to Locke and then the 2nd time tries to drag him in some hole? Yet everyone else it comes into contact with it kills, weird, huh?
Or it could possibly mean nothing.
I do hope though that Locke somehow saves himself or something. I'm just not ready for him to die yet, and as long as nothing happens to Kate or Sawyer then I am alright :) Well maybe Hurley too! He's to sweet!

Nobody knows.

BUT, he looks a lot like Locke, except he has hair.

And he can make things fly all over the place.

Perhaps a person who is on another plane of existence?

or a ghost?
