Malcolm X was born on May 19,1925 in Omaha Nebraska as Mal com Little- Mal com replaced his slave name with an X

He was one of the titans of the civil rights era. no one else in the civil rites area gave as forceful a voice to the rage and frustrations of black America. Mal com challenged white domination and demanded change. In doing so he struck a nerve in America.

He helped the black population find self respect, and racial pride.

While in jail he was introduced to the teachings of Elijah Muhammad the leader of the Nation of Islam; those teachings allowed hi to vent his anger at the way whites treated his family and denied him opportunities. He improved his intellect by coping every word in the dictionary, and reading voraciously.

He rose to prominence (1952-1964) As the nations Representative.

He is important because he inspired racial pride in black Americans. and by traveling the country and telling the people about their previously rich culture, which he said had been taken away by whites that had brainwashed blacks into a mentality of self hate.

He changed things by using his own life as an example he only wanted equality . he wa s just more physical than martin L. King Martin was nonviolent Mal com saying was by any means necessary

Malcolm lived during the height of Jim Crow and the worst of American segregation. His views were shaped by such. If you read his autobiography it appears that Malcolm supported an odd mix of equality and separation. I do not believe the man would support the current multiculturalism ('a celebration of differences') and ethnic distinction nonsense. It would be interesting to know if either he or MLK would have supported the demands of black students for their own campus dormitories. A clear indication that civil rights has come full circle.
