Hale's says its a L3 so you should have been able to breastfeed since there is no pediatric concern. Go get a copy of Medications and Mother's Milk by Dr. Thomas Hale, it is a great resource guide to meds you can and cannot take while breastfeeding. Many doctors don't care to learn what drugs are safe to take while breastfeeding, always call you midwife or OB after receiving a RX and ask them if they know.

When my son was 8 weeks old I had to take an antibiotic and my Dr. said wait 24 hours after the last dose, but I don't remember what the antibiotic was. I would check with your Dr. or the pediatrician to know for sure.

Does your hospital have a lactation consultant, also look up Le Leche league online for your local chapter. They may know if you dont get the answer here.

Also typically a nurse at the docs office (we got to a small family clinic with great service) could take a message and find that out for you.

Are you sure that it's unsafe to begin with? Many doctors don't know whether a medication is safe or not, so they just tell you to pump and dump. If you didn't really bug your doctor to do lots of research and reading, he probably just told you to wean temporarily just to be safe (which I think is outrageous). That strategy was concocted by formula companies and is marketed to physicians by drug reps. I would nurse right now.
