I'd like to hear some serious opinions on the matter, and why you think so. Is pot more dangerous than alcohol? Should it be legal and what would the repercussions be to society? Is it more of a "gateway drug" than alcohol?

Personally I feel alcohol is much worse than marijuana.

Alcohol is physically addictive, increases aggression, decreases co-ordination, and causes hangovers.

Marijuana does none of those things. Marijuana does cause lethargy, laziness, lack of interest.

As with anything done to excess, both marijuana and alcohol should be used in moderation or negative effects will be seen.

I think marijuana should be just as legal as alcohol. This way the citizens could realise some tax revenue from its sale, and it would be regulated so weed smokers would be guaranteed a consistent product not laced with other dangerous substances, etc.

And as to repercussions to society....nothing worse (and probably a lot less) that what is already going on with alcohol.

And the only reason marijuana is a "gateway" drug is because the dealer makes it that. Dealers are only after making money so it is in their best financial interests to induce the user to become addicted to more expensive drugs.

Considering in the UK weed has been downgraded to a class C drug, and it is widely accepted that if introduced today alcohol would be a class A drug this confuses me too. Obviously to excess both are harmful, but yes, weed chills you out - to get the total apathy that some people here have mentioned you would have to be smoking very large quantities over a prolonged period of time. To compare that to someone abusing alcohol in large quantities over large periods of time, most would be dead - either through organ disease/failure or (as a huge number of drink related deaths are) killed in some sort of vehicle. The government has lost the "war on drugs" and it does seem hypocritical to say well tobacoo and alcohol (both highly addictive and extremely harmful) are Ok because they are legal, (and well.... most people have tried them!), but pot is not becasue it is illeagle. They should legalise, standardise and tax!!! fight the good fight and if you decide it's too much well sit back, have a swig on your drink a toke on your smoke and let the world fight each other to death! :)

99% of the "pot will make you insane and ruin your life" answers come from people who've never smoked it. Alcohol is a worse gateway drug because it can mess you up way worse and even kill you. I've seen lots of people go from alcohol to meth, its a sad thing. My brother is an alcohlic and kept hurting himself from falling down on a weekly basis from being too drunk and nearly lost his leg and both arms over the course of several years due to these injuries. He never got hurt stoned once.

Its almost physically impossible to consume enough THC to hurt you. Unless you had some special equipment and an exorbent wad of cash burning a whole in your pocket. The kind of stuff that marijuana affeciendos get into occasionally are magic shrooms and other "organic" drugs that haven't been processed but almost never meth, coke, crack, heroine, acid, or even opium. People who smoke weed rarely wand anything to do with anything that will not just relax them or make them susceptible to laughter.

Really, neither is chemically addictive but neither are good for you except marajuana in limited circumstances such as treating a poor appetite, glacoma, or pain.

Simple: It's not. Anyone who actually smokes it will know. The only reason why it's worse is because it's illegal. And in turn that is why it's a gateway drug. Teens do it because it's illegal, so they think "Wow, this is great! What other kind of illegal substances are out there for me to try?" Booze is also a gateway drug, so to eliminate any gateway drug would be to control everything we as humans do, including coffee and booze.
Booze ruins lives, pure and simple. If you take away pot, please take away booze.

I think that marijuana use should be regulated the same way alcohol use is. That is to say, only people of a certain age should be allowed to buy it, and people who are under the influence shouldn't be allowed to drive or operate heavy equipment. We should have taken a lesson from history and learned by now that Prohibition does NOT work!

All I have to say is if your that curious light up and watch yourself become unmotivated, paranoid and fat.

Then the problems will start. Then try and quit. You will deny its the pot and blame your issues on others then justify the pot use and then eventually, you will deciede it was the pot and you really quit. But then you have to make new friends and basically start your life over again....

This is a real story...and anyone who quits pot like me has the same damn story.

Should is be legalized, maybe, but who is going to do it????

I think it depends how often you do it. Pot tends to turn people into apathetic, boring people.
