A republic is when the country, gets to choose their president by voting. USA has a form of republic becasue we choose who our officials in government will be. United Kingdom on the other hand. The throne is passed on to the next family member. So UK doesn't get to choose their next king or queen. Also a republic is set up so that not only one person dictates the country. Thats why we have the House of Reps and the Senate to make sure that the president cannot make a decition on his own. The house and the senate must aprove of his decitions. This is how a bill becomes a low. First a citisen tells his representitive that he thinks (insert idea here) would be something he likes to see happen. Than that representitve, next time in congress, he would bring up that idea. Thats when the idea becomes a bill. If 1/2 of the house of reps agrees to pass it, it goes on to the senates if 1/2 the senates agree that its a good bill it goes to the president. Now the president only has 2 choices, either make it a law, or veto it( to veto means not to pass) If the president vetos it, the bill can still become a law, if the house and the senate vote again and the bill gets 2/3 of the votes.

If you have access to a computer, but not a dictionary,I would be shocked! It does seem, however, that nobody else here has access to a dictionary.A Republic is a political system in which citizens vote for people to represent them.A Democracy is a political system in which everyone votes for themselves!

A republic is a free form of Govt. There are no fixed rules and any body can behave the way they want. You can never be held responsible. It is an absolute state of lawlessness, often claimed to be best form of governance by people who reap the benifits.
