What is "an Emo"?

Can someone educate this english gent? I would love to know what it all means.

Arent all teenagers Emotional? I thought it was something all teenagers went through. Or is this a new found syndrome?

An Emo is a whiney little cry baby b*tch that listens to shitty music, and spend his time crying about queer things. Did I mention they cry a lot? Sometimes they cut themselves and cry like retards. They sometimes smell bad, have funny hair cuts, and cry about it.

It stems from a genre of music called "emotional hardcore." The stereotype emos are usually teenagers who listen to this kind of music and dress in black and tight jeans. They write poetry and songs about their emotions and cry a lot. Some of the "real" emos have serious emotional/mental problems and practise self harm. Others just like the music and the fashion, in which case it is just a phase. The others need help to cope with their problems as they use the emo trend to cry out for help.

The stereotype for the kids who cut themselves and then wine about how much life sucks.
These kids think themselves as individuals, but go around listening to the same music, wearing the same clothes and acting the same way.
They all wear makeup and black nailpolish too. Even the guys. And skinny jeans
A lot of them do drugs as well.
I think it is a stupid stereotype.
I am friends with some of these "emo" kids at my school, But I am also friends with the more popular group as well.

Oh and the "emo's" and the "preps" are like the Jet's and the Shark's of today's world. They do not get along whatsoever.

I don’t know if I would describe all teenagers as emotional, hormonal and grumpy yes but not necessarily emotional. From what I can gather an ‘emo’ is a kid who is extremely emotional, listens to ‘dark’ music and dresses in dark/black clothes.

Emo is short for and emotional. they dress kind of punkish. the emo guys look kind of gay they usually wear dark colors. not actually gothic some emo's are fake but the real ones really have emotional problems they usually cut themselves or develop eating disorders. they claim to be alone and like an outcast. It's kind of like punk rockers on estrogen.

As far as I can tell, Emo is sort of wannabe Goth-lite, but with whinier music, tighter clothes (for the boys), and lots of crying and senseless emoting. Punk was all about anarchy and anger. Goth was about darkness and nonconformism and indifference. This Emo thing is just sort of lame and sad.

Yes you are right an emo is someone who is depressed/ very EMOtional, they let all their pain out by slitting their wrists not very nice, and dress in black clothes sometimes with skull on them. A grebo is like an emo but doesn't slit their wrists.

Emo = Emotionals they are a sub culture like Goths who paint there faces white and with dark eye make up usually dye hair black etc ,wear tight jeans and gaudy clothes anti establishment...absolute losers then again we all rebelled when we were young.....
Trouble is they glorify self harm which is a shame..♥

An "emo" is a teenage girl or boy who mopes around, acts sad and cries a lot, sometimes they "cut" on their skin with a razor blade. It used to be called "Goth", but I don't even think Goth was as lame as Emo is. They wear black eyeliner (even the wussy boys) and they dye their hair black.

They listen to atrocious music like "fall out boy" and "My chemical Romance". Nothing special, and fun to laugh at when you are at the mall.

emo actually is emotional shortened down. An "emo" is a stereotype. they're seen as people who listens to emotional rock and are alway depressed, wear black etc.
