I prefer the classic sounding names in their classic spellings. Apparently they arent very popular though. We have a Leah Allene, a David Joseph, and either a Cara Lynn or Jacob Alexander on the way.

I believe that a child's name should have character and meaning. Many times parents pick out a child's name without first seeing what the child looks like. Many of them refer to ancestorial namesakes, which is okay, but I like to carry the important names through the generations that mean something. I was born Paula Skyneska, after an aunt who was about 1/2 Cherokee Indian and who had the name Pauline Skyneska. Skyneska meant - ' brightest star in the heavens' and each of us took on a special characteristic within the name. When my daugher was born, she reminded me of pure light and she carries Skyneska as her first name . She has promised to continue with the name for her own offspring.

Why stick to the everyday names? Come up with something diff and unique. Or use a name that is not so diff but still very unique and not as common as Sarah Joseph Ashley Bill... those are so boring.

That is up to you really. I have decided to give unique names to my children only because my name is different as well. My name is Lurinda.
My sons name is Kaden. (His name seems to be popping up everywhere now but with a different spelling)
I am currently pregnant and we have a few names picked out. Boy will be Domonic Luther. Girl I have 3 names picked out. either Katrina Lillith, Kali May or Kiana (haven't picked a middle name with that one yet)
No one ever made fun of me for my name and I grew up in a small small country town. So don't stray away from a name because you are worried about people making fun of your child for his/her name. Kids are going to make fun of each other no matter what it is. Name, clothes, looks, ect.
People tell me all the time my son has a beautiful name and they love it.
If you want to go with one of the original popular names then you can simply change the spelling a little. Jessika, Sara that sorta thing.
Good luck on whatever you choose.

Choose what you want, but, alot of the old fashioned names are coming back into fashion now...and some are disguesting!!! so be carefull
I don't know where you live, but in the U.K ( where i'm from), Jessica is the most popular name ever!! (personally i hate it).
Not keen on sarah or Brian either, although i don't hear of hardly any child called brian nowadays!!
How about......Keira/Jade/Courtney/Tiana for girls, and Mason/Jaydon/Kyle/Shay for boys...
good luck x

If you don't want your child to be the 5th in her/his class with a name, look up the name trends from last year, and don't pic one of the really popular ones. Also, look at the birth announcements in the news paper since there tend to be regional name trends as well.

My name is Destiny Brianne. Never met but one person with the same first name as me. Brianne is a little more common b/c of the variations: mine is Brianne ( pronounced Breeanne), but there's Briann (pronounced Bryanne) and Brianna (pronounced Breeanna). I love the name Mae, that's my grandmother's name. I did get picked on about my name, but good-natured joking. "I'm following my destiny." "Are you my destiny." That sort of thing. I like the older names, because they are like classic beauties, but they aren't all that popular. Now, I wouldn't name my daughter Maude, but that's just me. I think it all depends on your preference. Maybe go back in your family and see if there's anyone that meant a lot to you and do a tribute to them. Going back in your family provides a wide range of names. Or at least it does in my family!
