You may not have a chemical imbalance, your body may be nutrient deprived. Certain disorders such as bipolar are contributed by a lack of a certain vitamin nutrient.

Try talking to your Dr. or a Nutritionist about vitamin deficiencies before suggesting antidepressants.

What a weird, possibly cruel thing for a husband to say.

My boyfriend suffers from depression. He's never been clinically diagnosed because he is vehemently opposed to going on any kind of drugs. But considering it seems to run in his family and he meets all of the symptoms, we're pretty sure.

Anyway, I'm a firm believer that depression and chemical imbalances can be treated naturally. The first thing to do is understand them. Keep a journal of your thoughts and behaviors and identify what makes both you and your hubby think this is going on. You CAN see a doctor, but stress that you do not want to be medicated. The doc can't force it on you.

Next, I highly recommend doing some reading about mental health. There are tons of books and websites out there with great information. Some of those may have suggestions for natural herbs or vitamins that may help.

Last, exercise. I know it seems like a weird suggestion, and I'm not one to give advice on exercising, but so many people insist that it helps the brain as well as the body.

Hope this helps. And I hope your husband meant that in a helpful way.

I have been battling depression for 19 years now (first diagnosed when I was 10). I only recently went on anti depression medication for it (I was sick and tired of being sick and tired). I am a huge fan of behavior modification therapy and therapy in general. I tend to shy away from natural herbs because studies have been iffy on the general safety and efficacy of them (for example, st johns wort lowers the effectiveness of the birth control pill and when taken in tandem they are both less effective). I suggest seeing a psychologist (not a psychiatrist - big difference. Psychiatrists push medication, psychologists listen and talk.) Therapy for me helped immensely. Even though I finally caved and went on medication, the therapy still helps daily and I still go every month to my therapist. It's nice just to have somewhere safe to go where i can talk about how I feel without judgement. Now that I'm pregnant I can no longer take my medication, but the lessons I've learned in therapy definitely make these 9 months bareable! Good luck!

Talk to your doctor. They may be able to make suggestions other than medication. Therapy may be a non-prescription answer.
You may have some mis-information about how anti-depressants effect you. Your doctor is your best bet.
You are lucky to have a husband that cares enough about you to let you know lovingly that he sees a problem. He wants to see you happy again. You have a good start with such a supportive partner. Good luck and God Bless.

i think of you ought to get some blood taken and have tests carried out. in case you think of there is any probability he could attempt to poison you, that is incredibly incredibly worth getting checked. It does not be widespread meals poisoning in the journey that your son and husband ate a similar meals and did not fall ill. possibly that is merely that your physique reacted to the meals otherwise than theirs, yet I think of you have eaten that form of meals earlier with none such reaction. Get examined asap, and circulate directly to the police if he has tried to poison you. He does not be the 1st husband to objective that. some men will not be able to stand the full divorce difficulty....parting with money, seeing their spouse circulate on and so forth.

sweet... the first thing's probably to talk to your doctor, he'll be able to discuss with you ways of dealing with things - if you're depressed, it might be worth talking to someone, rather than assuming anti-depressants are the way forward. or see if there's any alternative medical providers in your area - such as acupuncture, homeopathy etc.
