I mean, if everyone committed just one Saturday to stay home, and not drive anywhere, think of the gas it would save. Stay in, have a family day, and unless you have to work, just don't drive anywhere. Unfortunately, this may have a bad effect on the rest of the economy, because there would be no shopping (except internet), eating out, etc. However, I think our gas crisis probably outweighs that right now. What do you think?

You're absolutely right. In fact, if drivers would only cut back 10% on their driving, the oil companies would soon run out of places to store the excess gasoline, which would drive prices down.

This would mean an average of only 3 MILES A DAY less driving for the average American.

The odds of this happening, though are very slim.

I wish I could 'see' this logic that you all seem to have about staying home and one being the tell-tell gas solution. I'm sorry, but I doubt very seriously if a day at home and nobody buying gas would solve our gas issues. Did you know that we are the only ones paying these high gas prices? People over seas pay .25 per gallon. I'd be interested to know how it is they are paying so little and drive the same types of vehicles and we pay so much more. There has to be a better way of shaking down the olil guzzlers. The big corporations are getting paid huge dollars - and benefits and bonuses - while we- the low man and woman on the totem pole - suffer the greatest. If I could, I'd ride a bike or take the bus everywhere.

Neither really does much.

People who don't buy gas on may 15th, will just buy it on the 16th.

Staying home one day just means running erands on another day.

People seem to want to fix this thing in one day, but they can't.

It's easy enough to know what to do. Don't drive a gas-guzzler, keep it maintained and tuned. Drive it sanely (excessive speed wastes gas). Car pool, or move closer to work (or both). Combine errands. Take the bus.

Driving a hybrid is great, but the technology is new, and expensive. Ethanol can be used in existing engines (some minor adjustments have to be made in older cars), but getting it from corn means we now have a corn shortage. We need to look into new ways to produce ethanol. Contact Congress, and ask your elected representative to fund research into ethanol. If he refuses, fire him (that's what voting is for).

We didn't cause this crisis in one day, and we will not end it in one day. But it can end, if we are willing to work toward an ending.

I totally agree. So everyone won't buy gas on the 15th-they will still be using it and will just buy it on the 16th.
Also, I believe they are raising the prices in preparation for the 15th., so after we "boycott", they will drop the price and make us feel better w/o them losing profits.
I think it is good to take a stand to be heard, but we should be doing things daily to fight the man, not just on the 15th.
my 2 cents...
