Why are you postponing pregnancy for so long? A baby is one of the greatest blessings for a marriage and will bring heightened closeness, intimacy and happiness for you and your wife.
Unless you are broke or one of you is seriously ill, there are few good reasons to contracept.
If you are in a dire situation and really can't have a baby right now, try NFP. It's a natural method and will teach you the times in a woman's cycle to abstain.
NFP is also good because there are no side effects and it's free. Condoms put a barrier between you, and the pill can cause early abortions.

Be open to life! I became pregnant on my wedding night and God blessed us with a beautiful little boy. My husband was deployed to Iraq for that pregnancy and my second one, but all of these difficulties brought us closer together.
We have now had 3 children and are hoping for more. God is so good to bless us with these little ones.
Best of luck and congrats on your wedding!

If you don't want kids for another 2 years...yes safer to use a condom always (or some form of birth control). A woman is most fertile 14 days after her period starts so you'll want to avoid intercourse for days 14-17. Additionally, sperm can live in the body for 3-5 days (on average) so if you're not using protection you don't want to have sex on days 11-17 of her cycle. This is only an average though and it's important to know that a woman can get pregnant AT ANY TIME during her cycle. So...if you want to avoid any surprises, definitely use protection each and every time.
to Audex...believe it or not, not everyone wants kids! Shock! My husband and I weren't planning on having kids for another 5 years (we've been married 5) but nature had other plans for us. The best time to have a baby is when both partners are ready for it. You don't have to have kids the second you get married. For some, this is fine and I don't judge. Everyone is different and wants different things. For others of us though, we want to enjoy each other and life in general before the stresses of childrearing kick in. No way is right and no way is wrong, it just depends on the couple. Oh, and for the record, the pill does NOT cause early abortions. The pill prevents ovulation, which means that the egg is never released which means it can never be fertilized.

Since you are married, you should consider Natural Family Planning or Fertility Awareness Method. They both involve the woman taking her temperature with a Basal thermometer first thing when she wakes up. She also observes her cervical fluid (also known as discharge) everyday. These things she charts. Using this information and series of rules, a woman can tell when she is close to ovulation. The difference between the two methods is that with NFP you abstain from sex during the woman's fertile time but with FAM you use a condom during that time.
NFP is slightly more effective than FAM just because there is always a chance of condom failure. NFP is 99% effective *if used correctly*. So you must follow the rules!! Some choose it for religious reasons and some because they don't want the extra hormones of taking the pill daily (which can decrease a woman's libido or dry her cervix making sex uncomfortable). NFP can also be used to achieve pregnancy more easily when you choose to do so.
And please let me be clear. THIS IS NOT RHYTHM METHOD!!! Sorry, it really bugs me when people make this mistake.

My husband and I waited 8 years to have a child...I understand wanting to be together first and not have to share each other with a new little person. I was on birth control the whole time..when we decided to have a child I just stopped taking it, within two weeks I was pregnant...(this is different for everyone though). The pill is effective taken correctly, but not 100%, using a condom will certainly decrease the chances.

This is also depends on your wife's ovulation cycle. The so-called typical woman ovulates midway between her times of bleeding, but this is not always the case. That's why it's said that a woman can become pregnant at any time.
Unless she has been tracking her ovulation for several, several months and has a solid idea of when it's happening, you will need to use some form of birth control to be safe.
My husband and I were married for almost exactly a year when I become pregnant while faithfully using birth control. I also have a fertility disorder. Between the two of those, I "shouldn't" have gotten pregnant, but God had other plans.
We had also planned on waiting two years, but now that we are expecting, we wouldn't have it any other way.

Well, it's safest to ALWAYS use condoms.. or even 2 methods of birth control. It's safest 2-3 days before her period starts... but it's not 100%. Especially if her cycles are irregular.

my opinion!! well make sure u know well her period days.. and if she's regular.. remember alot of womans are inregular which mean they dont nesesary have there period every month, around the same time.. when a girl is inrelugar, she could have her period when ever her hormone ask for it.. which mean u dont know when she's ovulating.. BE VERY CAREFUL AROUND HER OVULATING PERIOD... thats the perfect time to get pregnant.. and sweety condoms are the most common anti-c but there not the best.. if i were u i would put her on the pill just to be on the safe side...

i've read that women are most fertile 2 weeks after their period. but no time is really all that much safer. there is always the risk of pregnacny because condoms arent always totally effective like I think theire like "97 percent" effective (which is still good).
have you tried other methods, like spermacide or birth control? if not, theres always abstinency... lol jk. good luck

Ok, for your first question, 100%.
Second, the best time to have sex around your wife's period
is a week and a half after period.
But after that, if you do not want her pregnant, you should pull out of her before coming or simply use a condom.
Good Luck!

If you don't want a baby, use a condom or the pill. This just lowers the odds because even then it is possible to get pregnant.
