As you probably know by know, Tony Blair has announced he is resigning as leader of the Labour Party on June 27th.

Sky News interviewed an MP before and asked her why she thought he was going. She either said that she thought he had run out of road or run out of rope. I didn't quite here which.

If it was you being interviewed, which one would you have said, and why?

He's won 3 elections and done his 10 years. In a thousand years time when schoolkids look back at life the year 2000 - Tony Blair was Prime Minister.

How cool would that be???

Britain has a long past of world diplomacy.

Blair lead the British into the Iraq war (admittedly with a small number of troops) but when the British people through polling showed its disrespect for this move and also for Blair's leadership, he had a choice. He could have listened to the people and withdrawn, especially when it became it was apparent it was a civil war, or he could have said "I know better than the people."

Instead, he chose to resign and to leave the issue of Britain's role in Iraq to another leader. IMHO, a cowardly move. Don't hand off to another leader problems you have caused.

I think both are apposite. The man should have done the decent thing and resigned when the pitiful excuse of weapons of mass destruction was exposed for the lie it was. He should have gone out under a cloud of shame. The thousands he has helped to kill evidently do not weigh on his conscience.
My question would have featured rope and all of the above.
