I bought my car used, the owner before me used to smoke in it with the windows up. Now my car smells like an ash tray. I've tryed taking it to get detailed, but that didn't work. Does any body know how to get the smell out?

It's in the upholstery. You'll need that dry cleaned or somehow cleaned. If you have a Servicemaster cleaning company near you, call them and get an estimate.

Odor ban to clean but then, I found the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT carbon odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. It works so much better than all those sprays and fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just put a couple of these in car and trunk. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying

Nothing on the market will remove that smell, but just cover it up for today.

Call around to detail shops and find one that does an " ionization treatment ". This is the same thing as you see on TV for Sharper Image and the Ionic Breeze. So if you have one of them, it will do the job as well.

They will put the ionizer into the car for up to 6 hours or even longer. This will electronically neutralize the smell atoms in the car, in the dash, seats, carpet, etc. It will actually remove the smell. The car will smell like an indoor swimming pool for a day or so, but that will air out over time.

Anything else you will just waste your money on to mask the smell.

Fibrezze or Outs will do a good job at getting ride of it. you mostly need to have the car cleaned out really good. you will also need to clean any area that if difficult to get to, like the air vents and under the dash. Smokers suck, I hate cleaning and detailing their cars. They always complain about how horrible the car smells and then they want me to get rid of the smell. I tell them the only way I can get rid of it for ever is to change the drive of the car or sell the whole car it's self. anyway try that and see if it helps. Then just use air fresheners.

Get a canines and stress around with it for some hours (thats how mine went away so immediately) Or visit Walmart and in the motor vehicle branch are those great little heady fragrance clips. they are small and go suited into your vents, they conceal even the canines scent :)
