I am having probs starting in the morning, I have changed the glow plugs and the relay. I turn the engine on light goes out but need to turn over for around 10 secs then stop turn over again another 10 secs and it starts, quite smoky, When it starts it is not lumpy and it runs perfect and starts normal until the next morning, Before this problem light went out van would start in half a turn with out efort or pedal. What els can I check ?

After light goes out wait 'til you hear a 'click' then turn engine over. Mostly starts immediately

I had a diesel with similar problems - check water isn't going into engine
Not very good with cars - but another thing to check out

Take it to a diesel specialist. They can check the injectors and also do a compression check on each cylinder.

My money is on an injector problem.

injector pump timing,,compression low,,some diesel engines with an ECU management system need to have the ECU reprogrammed to keep the glow plugs on for longer to compensate for lower compression

Sounds to me like fuel cut off solenoid valve at front of pump fitted loads of em renowned for sticking
