In the words of one very smart Jew I met, "Moses is Moses, but business is business."

Obviously, it would be discriminatory for those employees to be denied compensation based on their religious beliefs. I'm sure that if your employer offered a bonus on Passover, or Ramadan, or Darwin's birthday, you wouldn't quibble over cashing the check.

First of all, I havent seen a Christmas bonus in a hell of a long time. We are lucky to even get a regular paycheck. This year all we got was an email wishing us a happy holiday and encouraging us to work even harder.

As an atheist, I dont see Christmas as a christian holiday anymore. It has become a secular thing all about the consuming, so money seems to be an appropriate.

Christmas is a national holiday, therefore you don't have to agree with all of Christianity to reap benefits. Maybe (hypothetically) you didn't really care for Martin Luther King -
if your workplace were to give the day off - would you refuse and ask to keep working? I rather doubt it. Or, should people who were born in other countries be forced to work on Independence Day?? No. Besides, even for those people who might be agnostic or atheist, Christmas has come to represent a time of family gathering and remembrances - and that is better than nothing at all.

Lol, now that's a good point you are making. However, when a person gets a CHRISTmas bonus, you do know that the CEO of the business could easily change the name, right? If someone was offended, then he would be forced to change it to "Holiday bonus check", or something like that. I see your point, though. It seems that many people don't stay firm in their beliefs when money is involved!

Your employer is showing his sense of charity and goodwill in giving those bonuses. Try to not think of it as receiving a bonus for Christmas, but as receiving a bonus because your boss believes in the meaning behind Christmas. Ya know, that whole good will to all men thing.

Seeing how you Christians stole the holiday, which was originally Pagan, maybe you are the one who shouldn't get the bonus?

You do realize that if your supervisor was to say that to someone, to deny them a bonus just because they don't believe in the same religion, that would make for one hell of a lawsuit and Mr. supervisor would quickly find himself out of a job.

Unfortunately, the same can be said for Christians. I would guess that not much Christmas bonus money goes to take care of the poor, but to buy junk that will end up in a landfill within 90 days.

A bonus, christmas or otherwise, are based on your job performance not by a religious belief or lack there of. Or maybe you christians think you deserve one simply because you believe in fairie tales?
