1. Firefly
2. When i first saw it, I laughed at the seemingly idiotic premise of mixing sci-fi and old-style westerns. But when I watched a few more episodes, I saw how the writing was actually mature. The culture, politics, etc. were conceived by Joss Whedon in a mature manner, never taking the audience's intelligence for granted. I don't watch much sci-fi shows, though. Firefly was the only one that really got to me - which is why I consider it the best (Unless if you consider Dead Like Me a scifi show...)

Star Trek was ok for a while but after that, it really grew 'old'.. My apologies if you're a fanatic (although I suspect many people would agree with me too).
I like V! Don't know how many of you remember it. It was about aliens who came to earth. They were the ones who swallowed little mammals and goldfish etc as snacks. I watched it as a kid. The song was scary as well. I loved that show.
Secondly. I think the ancestor of all mutant tv shows like X-men and Heroes, is Misfits of Science. It was so interesting then. I wanted to much to have superpowers..

X files....I dont know if that'll really be classed as sci-fi but I loved the out of this world scenarios and how they fit in to actual life with out people even realising what was living among them....I thought it was a really creative show....
=)

I'd have to say Farscape. For some reason the show hit me right. I liked the different characters, the muppets, the use of space and our world mixed togther. The characters who were human and plant. The plot lines were interesting and held my attention and it had a great ending. All in all, it was a great show and I miss it.

Most people would say Star Trek, but I would say Sliders since there was this group of 4 people who slid to alternate Earth's and try to find their way home (or atleast to the right Earth or the dimension that leads to the right Earth home).

a bit of an old one but Blake's 7 was great for its time not quite up there with star trek for fx but good stories and a different look on a rather dark and controlling future. it didn't always end up 'happy ever after'

That's a hard question to answer. I definately have favorites, but I don't know if I can say that one is better than all the others.
Top Five:
Farscape
Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis are grouped together)
Firefly (damn you, Fox, for cancelling it!)
Space: Above and Beyond
Dr. Who
