You've read one book by a female writer and make a generalization like that? Seems a bit narrow-minded.

Oh dear, you've had some very unkind and harsh answers! I have worked in major bookshops for years and IT IS TRUE that female writers (and male writers) are getting worse. I am appalled at the sheer volume of bad stuff that gets published. I read as much as I can stand, but every week there are more new pink chick lit books, etc. However, do not give up. Try Iris Murdoch, who was brilliant. Also, get on the mailing list for Persephone books, which are all written by women (mainly 20th century I think). George Eliot, the Brontes, Jane Austen, P D James, Elizabeth Hardwicke, Elizabeth Smart, Sylvia Plath, Ntozke Shange, Doris Lessing, Muriel Spark...for wit and sheer intelligence you cannot beat Germaine Greer (non fiction). Many people do not like her at all but I think she's superb. I think you have to go BACK now to find quality. It is decreasing.

That is a huge generalization you have just made. Just because you don't like one book by one author doesn't mean that you can then apply that opinion to a huge group of talented writers who happen to be grouped together (in your odd little mind) because they share the same gender. Besides, if your question is a representative sample of your writing, you have absolutely no room to criticize.
And for the record, Frederick Forsyth and Hubert Selby are mediocre writers at best.

Lots of female authors have written under masculine pseudonyms or used initials to disguise their gender in the past to avoid this sort of prejudice especially in genres which are supposed to appeal only to men. Julian May for instance is a highly regarded writer and female. Andre Norton is an SF Grand Master. When it became known how many favourite 'male' authors were actually women, readers came to realise that there was no discernable difference.
Men can write tender love stories, women can write kick-*** action - there are no boundaries.

Well, I'm sorry, but you don't write so well yourself.
I think it's pretty narrow minded when someone criticizes and lay judgment on the entire female author population of the world based on one or two lousy books. And it's funny to think that the leading author in book sales worldwide is a female author who is now even richer than the Queen of England!
Which other male writer had his books on the bestseller's list even before being released to the public?

Excuse me, but you can't label all female writers as being ''bad'' just based on one book that you've read. Writers, male or female, will have a bad book or two! I mean look at Austin or Shelley and for the now, J.K. Rowling - how great their books are! Now just because their stories may not appeal to you maybe because the Frankenstein monster may be wearing a filthy cloth of a kind - maybe you should take your question to the message boards at ''patriarchs Rus!''

Sounds to me like you have a problem, not only with women writers but also in general. This is a free world and we women do have voting rights, we are not property to be used and thrown away at the whim of anyone. We have brains and more than likely someone will knock you off your feet if you keep up with the degrading attitude. Have you never heard the saying. 'A man must try twice as hard as a women to do something and then end up to be half as smart.'
Get real if it wasn't for a woman you would not be here.

if you used the brain cells you were born with and did some research you would discover some painfully awful books by both men and women, and some fantastically brilliant books by both men and women.
plus whether a book is regarded as good bad or indifferent depends on the reader - beauty in the eye of the beholder etc etc.
and if women had not been suppressed by the pluerocratic patriartic society for so long there would be many more brilliant books out there by female authors than there are now.
and your grammar, composition and spellings only prove how awful and stupid many male writers are after all.
oh and thanks for the points!

A good book is a good book, it doesn't matter which gender writes it. You just happened to pick a bad book written by a woman. Someday you will read an equally bad one written by a man...it does happen. Or you can just keep reading two authors your whole life and never have that disappointment again.

Well you are just a misogynist idiot aren't you? How can you generalise like that? Perhaps the book you read wasn't very good, but that doesn't mean that all female writers are terrible.
What about PD James, Jean Rhys, Margaret Atwood?
W@nk face.
