I've also heard you're not supposed to eat withing 3 hours of falling asleep, which seems more accurate to me. I mean really, how does your stomach know what time it is? I think at one point the national average bedtime was 10PM, hence the 7PM saying. I haven't gone to bed by 10 since....middle school. Can anyone WITHOUT DOUBT set this straight. Please, don't just say "Well I think it's blah blah blah, but not sure". Only answer if you know a definate answer.

One misconception is that when we go to sleep, our metabolism slows down. From your RMR (resting metabolic rate), which is the state we're in when just sitting there, when you sleep you enter SMR (sleeping metabolic rate) which is actually HIGHER than your RMR, for the first few hours of sleep.

As mentioned above, as long as your not going over your daily caloric intake, you'll be fine. Stay away from the refined carbs, and go for lean proteins and healthy fats. Just be sure not to skip breakfast as a healthy breakfast will halt the catabolic effects of sleep.

If your last meal of the day is at 7 PM, and your first meal the next day is at 7 AM, you will have gone 12 hours without eating. Your body would (no doubt) be very deep into starvation mode.

If you are hungry after 7PM, then eat something. Make sure that it is healthy, but you should be doing that all day anyway.

According to Oprah's doctor, not eating that last late night snack is the difference between, losing weight, maintaining your weight and gaining weight, so his suggestion is not to eat that last late night meal. Reason: one small bowl of cereal turns into another small bowl of cereal because you have a little milk left in the bowl, so you would naturally pour a little more cereal. Then, you might have a few pcs of cheese, then you would want some nuts to go along with that. They feel that one item turns into two items and so on.

However, according to an article I read, a late night snack is just find as long as it fits into your calorie range for the day.

Best of luck !
