About 2 1/2 weeks ago I was at work and bent over to pick something up and on my way up I hit my head fairly hard on an x-ray unit. I didn't feel well a few days after but my headache went away. About five days ago I felt worse and have a neck strain too. When I am in bed trying to fall asleep at times I jump up because it feels like I'm losing my breath for some reason. I went to the doc today and he thinks I may have post concussion syndrome. He prescribed me some darvon and I took one and now my forehead/head feel like they are asleep. They scheduled me for a head CT scan for next week Thur to see if I have bleeding or any severe problems (he thinks I should be fine) but I don't know if I want to wait that long since I don't feel well at all. My question is for anyone who has ever had post concussion syndrome are these symptoms supposed to be severe like they are for me? Or is this not normal?

Post-concussion syndrome, also known as postconcussive syndrome or PCS, is a set of symptoms that a person may experience for weeks, months, or even years after a concussion, a mild form of traumatic brain injury. As many as 50% of patients who have experienced concussion have PCS, and some sources say as many as 90% of patients experience postconcussion symptos. Some doctors consider patients who have symptoms resulting from concussion for more than three months after the injury to have PCS, while others diagnose patients with symptoms starting within a week of trauma with PCS.In late, or persistent PCS, symptoms last for over six months.

It is not known what causes PCS symptoms to occur and persist or why some patients who suffer a mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) develop PCS while others do not. It is commonly believed that physiological and psychological factors before, during, and after the injury all take part in the development of PCS.

What You are experiencing is normal. I'm sure it's a nightmare for you. You just have to go through all the testing and let the doctor figure out the best treatment for you.

My mom was diagnosed with it about three days ago. I was searching for more information when I came upon this. Her worst symptoms are her short term memory, speeking clearly, sleeping, and a headach. After the initial impact we took her right to the er, she was preety bad off. SHe has trouble sleeping, and can't bend over. If you want an quicker CAT scan go on over to the er, you may have to wait a few hours, but the lift of anxiety might make you feel better. The symptoms are severe, and scarry at times. But my mom is slowely getting better, I'm sure you will too. Good Luck.
