I think you really mean PYELOLITHOTOMY, that refers to a surgical procedure to remove a stone from the renal pelvis of a kidney.

Interesting...It isn't in my Webster's New World College Dictionary either.
I can only find...pyelogram..n. an xray picture taken by pyelography.
or
pyelography...n.the taking of Xray pictures of the kidney and ureter after they have been filled with some radiopaque solution.
or
pyelonepheritis..n. infection of one or both kidneys, usually involving both the pelvis and the functional tissue.
There are no other word with your spelling. Maybe your teacher is pulling a fast one on you.

maybe your spelling it wrong
pyelolithotomy - operative removal of a calculus from the kidney through an incision in the renal pelvil
otomy- removal
pyel-kidney
lith- calcus
or if you were spelling it correctly
Pyel- kidney
Pith- the center of hair
otomy- removal

I've never heard of it either but most words like this one are actualy 2 or more words put together to make 1. I would try breaking the word down and finding the definition of the seperate words. Pyelo= the word we don't know but thotomy= I'm pretty sure means the study or somthing of that nature goodluck when you find out let me know thanks!
