So, our relation hasnt been on top of the hills lately. I tried my best to make it work and so has he. He has been an angel. Very sweet, honest, and a real gentleman. Plus he has a very stable job. But something he said today upset me a lot. He told me, "I think you should loose weight because you have gained a lot since we have been dating." Now that isn't the part that upset me, what really upset me was when he said, "It the summer time and girls are wearing skirts. I never did this before but I started looking at them." I understand he's being honest but that hurt me a lot. What would you do?

If this relationship is really as good as you say it is, then welcome to your first bump in the ride! If you are trying to make this a relationship last a life time then you will have to work this out.

It seems like a big deal to you, and really it is. But don't go on the offensive right away when you approach him about it - which you will have to. Take the time to figure out what exactly about it bothered you, what you would've wanted him to do differently, and what about it you appreciated (like his willingness to talk to you about it, thats more than most women can say about their men.)

Talk to him calmly, ask why it matters to him so much what you look like. Maybe it has something to do with a totally different issue and he was just using that as a mask.

In the end, realize that it is a hurdle that you can jump as long as he is there to help you. Hopefully it will turn out to be a conversation that will strengthen you guys!!!

Tell him that if he truly loved you, he would love you with the extra weight. Then really think about what he said. He may think that he is helping you because he doesn't want you to be miserable this summer. Have you indicated that you were unhappy with your weight before (Maybe last summer)?

I cant believe he said that! U know what its good to be honest but you must be careful what you say! Don't say stuff that is going to hurt the person you care about!

why dont you try telling him how what he said made you feel. if your relationship is strong then you should have strong communication. youll grow stronger from this if you talk and work it out. let him know you have emotions and he hurt them

not very respectful of your feelings, you need to tell him how hurtful he was, and then ask him if he is hunting for a trophy wife. and he should love you no matter what.

if you are going to lose weight, then you should do it for yourself, not because your boyfriend asked you to. was that a threat? lose weight, or I"m going to stray? if so, he's a loser and not worth your time.
