Smaller plate, smaller portions, slacked up on the snacks. Helped me
And give it some time. It took time to gain the weigh, it'll take time to lose it.
Good luck.

Stay away from beans , rice, tortillas, pasta and potatoes. Too many carbs! Eat meat , fish chicken and vegetables. See if your family will at least buy some veggies for you to eat, steam them and you can season them with a little olive oil, lemon juice, salt , pepper and a little parmesan cheese. Don't forget, to eat some fruit too. 2-3 servings a day. Example would 1 and 1/2 apples a day. You will definitely drop the gut if you eliminate all of those carbs.

It is still another way but maybe the result will not as fast and effective as you can change the food. You can try with sit up exercise and running, if you still have much time take a gymnastic exercise. But you have to remember to deduct consume of salt and oil. Since salt makes your body has difficulties to be "burn" when taking exercise. And oil will make your problem becomes worst. So better you deduct its, but please noted deduction not means not to eat at all.
You have to avoid carbonized and alcohol drinking. Its will make your body like "pumped". What you drink right now about water or fruits juice is good enough.
Good luck.

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
