Don't tell me that I advantage from my educational taxes. I do not. The drop out rate is unending. I do not benefit from taxes assessed to me as one who does not have children. That's like telling me I have to pay taxes for anyone whom I have no affiliation with. It is the parents who should pay those taxes. If they don't want the taxes; don't have children. Kids are dropping out of school, yet I have paid taxes to educated them in vein.

Don't try to debate me. I don't have a kid in school and should not pay taxes to educate those that do. It is

I have chosen not to have children: I should I get a tax break because I am not a burden to the school system; I think I should. Parents of those children should bear all this burden since they know our system relies on tax dollars. I'm not putting a child in school and should not be taxed for those who have children in school. In fact I should get tax relief since I am not contributing to the burden of the school system.

Jo Blow has some compelling arguments in my favor, except for my taxes I pay for school children, which I don't have. Maybe they will succeed and become great people, but that is not for me to pay for. If my house is on fire and they put out the fire, my insurance would pay for that. Kids in my neighborhood throw rocks on my windows and key my cars. Who is going to pay for that? I will I guess. When they quit school that I have paid taxes for, what have I paid for? Parents don't give me money for no reason, so why should I give them money for their kids? They aren't paying taxes for my kids that don't exist. Parents get a tax break, but I don't and should since I have no kids in school. They allow their kids to run loose and listen to obscene music, do drugs and things I don't do. Why should I pay for all that? It is discrimination in fact and I stand by my position that I should not have to pay for the kids of parents who choose to have them.

If you don’t want debate what’s the purpose of your post – to vent? This is a forum for questions and answers so I’m going to answer.

Whether you see it or not, you do benefit from an educated society. Those kids your tax dollars are helping to educate will grow up someday, get jobs and also pay taxes. Some of their tax money will be used to pay for your healthcare and partially fund your retirement. These same children will also become voters, determining the future of the country. I don’t know about you, but I am much more comfortable with the future of the country in the hands of an educated populace than an ignorant one. A smaller number of those children will become the leaders of the country – whether in industry or in government. I think we can agree that it is to our benefit to have educated leaders.

Finally, if you can opt out of school taxes can I opt of out taxes that don’t directly benefit me? What about taxes that fund programs for the underprivileged? Taxes used to subsidize farmers? Taxes used to fund art works that I’ll never see? The list is endless but I’m sure you get the point. Society is more than a collection of individuals looking out for their own needs.

And think about this - would you rather pay for a kid to be in school or in prison?

why should Jo pay taxes for fire dept when his house is not on fire?

Why should Jo pay road tax for road he doesn't use?

why should Jo pay library tax if he can't read?

why should Jo pay income tax that funds an Army if he's a pacifist? (LOLOL)

why should Jo pay tax to fund police dept when Jo can take care of himself?

Jo loves to pay school tax,, gives all the neighborhood kids a place to go for several hours a day. One of them might invent something useful,, or cure cancer,, or who knows what? Small investment,, at least some of the kids in school today will go on to college and earn big bucks and pay big taxes,, takes away some of the burden from Jo when he grows old.

From the quality of your writing I'd suggest that you ask for a rebate. Your education didn't take all that well.

If you don't want to debate the issue, why did you waste the keystrokes posting your rant?

You have a choice in having kids or not having them. You DON'T have a choice in paying taxes. The tax protesters of the 60s and 70s who didn't want their tax dollars funding The Nam learned that, some of them the hard way.

Given the hatred in your rant, it's probably best that you chose to not procreate. Thanks for that much.

I don't think you should. Perhaps I shouldn't pay taxes for social security or medicaid because I don't intend to receive any payments. There is one down side, with all the money that it costs to educate illegal aliens etc., without your assistance and others who don't have kids we would have to close many schools. A whole host of new social problems would develop from the increased lack of education, employment etc.

For the same reason that some other childless person paid their taxes so *you* could go to school.

A community educates its children for the future. You're either part of the community or you're not.

Do you think people should stop funding your local library because not everybody uses it? Should they stop paying for road maintenance for roads not used by everybody?

I agree with you. I am in the same situation. I presume you are in the USA. That is why the tax laws need to be changed, but the politicians refuse to do it. Do you know that those kids your paying taxes for their parents are getting thousands of dollars back for Earned Income Credit. I know someone with 2 kids who gets $4-5,000 back every year from his taxes.
