Do all beagles have breathing issues, mine tends to snort when excited is that normal?

She is a 4-year old female beagle. When she gets excited she tends to snort (sounds like a pig). My friends beagle did the same thing. She can normally catch her breath and stop snorting pretty easily a few moments later (never lasts for more than a minute or two). It is not everyday but sometimes. Is this normal or does she having breathing issues?

That is commonly called "reverse sneezing" and is the soft tissue in the back of the mouth prolapsing. You can stop it by cupping your hand over her muzzle and applying gentle pressure to her nostrils, or by softly stroking her throat. It is sometimes triggered by excitement.
Beagles are not prone to breathing problems.

It literally entails getting inside the mind and the behavior system of the canine. When a person uses dog whispering techniques, they interact with the dog on the canine level. Again, one the most common mistakes that people make is treating the dog like a small human being.

"Reward Training"

Reward training is very simple and it's one of the older tricks that works. This is a simple method of training the dog by positive reinforcement. Once he does what it is told to do, it receives a treat. How this works is that the dog owner must entice the dog towards the treat. Once the canine develops awareness for the treat, it develops a strong desire for it. When the desire for it is extremely strong, the dog owner pulls back. Then the dog receives a command and when the dog obeys the command, it receives the treat. The object is to make the dog associate a treat with the command.

"Clicker Training"

Other dog training techniques include one that is similar to reward training, which is called clicker training. How this works is that the clicker is incorporated to get the dog's attention. The clicker is clicked as a form of communication with the dog. It learns that there is a command or reward associated in conjunction with the clicker. Many people claim that this is fun, and they actually make a game with the dog by using the clicker for their dog training tasks.

"Ultrasonic Whistle"

Last, a relatively new form of dog training technique is called the ultrasonic whistle. This works because the ultrasonic sound is only heard by the dog. When the owner is trying to communicate a command, or stop the dog from barking, they will blow on their whistle when they want to communicate a command to the dog. The benefit of this is that the humans can't hear this noise, but the dog can hear it, and they will learn to associate the sound with a command.

Dog training techniques aren't hard to incorporate, but they are something that absolutely must be incorporated from the time a dog owner brings their new dog home. No matter how old or how young the dog is, they will need training. Once they are trained properly, they will be a wonderful addition to one's family.

Peanut tends to snort when she is eating. We asked a vet about it and was told it is one of these things that happen. Beagles are also know for their snoring and Peanut can certainly let out some of those.

It can be loud and frightening, like you say, especially when excited, but I don't think it is anything to worry about and I'm certainly not concerned.

Hi I have a 8 year old female beagle and she does the same thing. She also makes a coughing nose or "hair" ball noise as I like to call it. I have talked to the vet about it and he has heard the noises. There is nothing to worry about as long as your beagle has yearly check ups! Be honest with the vet and tell him what yours does, some symptoms will say kennel cough and others are just normal things. Beagles are also very smart and will learn how to "play" their owners. They could have some other conditions like allergies, yep dogs get them! They also get things like colds and sinus infections so you want to talk to a vet, for the most part I would say don't worry.

Yea. I have 2 male beagles that are almost 4 and they do that. They tend to not breathe correctly when they are exciting causing them to get choked up. Also...one of my 2 have asthma, which the vet says is his issue. Nothing serious to worry about. They correct themselves and carry on with a smile. :-)

Beagle are so scent-oriented that when she gets excited, she's breathing as deep and as fast as she can, and naturally when she does that, she clears her nose (try breathing in as fast as you can with your lips closed and see if you sneeze or snort). Since she recovers and is fine after a moment, don't worry about it. Just one of the endearing things about beagles.

Mine does too. She two years old, and she does this even when she's not overly excited, just taking a walk or laying down.

I did a google search on "beagle snorting" and it seems to be a fairly common thing.

She might have sinus problems. Is she an indoor or out side dog?Dogs that are strictly indoor dogs tend to have slight sinus problems. I have a beagle that is strictly an outside dog because he is used to hunt, and he never does that. On the other hand my other dog that lives indoors, snorts all the time. It has something to do with the air being drier inside. You can try running a humidifier, but you dont have to. It's nothing to worry about
