its not like they really do hurt each other. my 2 pups playfight all the times and one of them does at times gets cuts (sometimes big ones, they bleed...) and all but they know when to stop. i do ecourage it sometimes, like, i grabbed the older one and get the younger one to "attack"!!
does anyone else do this?
i love it when they play flight...i could watch them for hours (btw, they are 8 and 12 months, girls)...better then tv!

Play fighting is normal for dogs and to be expected. It helps them learn to deal with each other and later may come in handy if they actually need to fight. Keep in mind that animals only fight for a reason such as breeding rights or self protection or to protect their offspring. Very unlike people! You need to be careful about encouraging the aggressive behaviour, let them playfight at their own pace. If they get too rough with eachother, correct them immediately. They are defining who is the alpha in your pack, through their playfight. I'm suggesting not encouraging with your voice, saying "get them, get her, and shove the one less eager, out into the play. It makes the dogs think aggressiveness is okay, but you don't want them to be aggressive towards you and your family, you want them to know where the boundaries are, and who is the boss. A friend rescued a mother and her litter, from death's door. It was truly one of those stories you see on the animal channels, about a starving dog, trying to survive alone. The pups playfight like crazy, the mother gets the ones that are being too rough. Fun watching her correct them, and how they communicate. Good stuff!

yeah, sorry but having dogs attack each other is not funny! My dogs play with each other by jumping around and barking but I would never encourage it to go any further than that! I highly doubt that it is better than tv when you have a wounded animal! You'll think so when one of them gets killed by the other! Or worse!

if you are encouraging your pups to fight, by telling them to "attack" until they draw blood, you should not have dogs. You say " its not like they really do hurt each other". If they are drawing blood it has to hurt. Can I come and bite your arm until I draw blood and you will tell me it does not hurt?
