I am against this costly and unnecessary war but am supportive of the troops. My husband just deployed to Iraq. This is a war of choice and the president gives me the impression that he does not like to cooperate and that is why we are practically going at this war alone.

Terrorism is a hard thing to fight. There are terrorist camps all over the world and even in our own backyard. They are blending in with society and could be your next door neighbor. This is why I don't agree that you can fight terrorism by conquering two nations. Perhaps he was trying to send a message to Al-Qaieda, but you can't scare those who have nothing to lose. After 9/11, I wish the president would've just gave a speech about terrorism to increase awareness, gain international support, and fight the war on a smaller scale by increasing homeland security. Thousands of U.S. soldiers have been killed and now I ask what for?

Oh I guess we decided to go on the offensive partly because of 9/11 and partly because Saddam had not complied with any U.N. resolutions. And he was bragging about having WMD's. We did give him a choice. He said up yours so we did what we said we would do. Have we made mistakes? Hell yes. Islamo Fascists aren't going to go away if we surrender in Iraq now. Yet I can see how frustrating it is to so many. If we leave you can bet Iran will through sponsored terror groups with the help of Syria and others crush Iraq. And take their oil. Iraqi oil plus what Iran has (10 % of the worlds oil) in the hands of Islamo radicals will really give them the chance to mess with the worlds economy. I hate war but I love our right to be free people more. So my conclusion is they will not stop unless stopped. they have been attacking the free world for years 1000's of attacks and thousands of killings. And they will just gain in confidence and strength and be able to do more damage here in the states. I think it is a Noble and a great thing that we have men and women willing to sacrifice all to preserve our way of life. More die here from gang related crimes and drunk drivers then over there. Neither one is acceptable but they are part of our reality. For our children and their children we need to win this war on terror. They are evil and just need to be crushed, their will to fight taken away. If we stay strong over there maybe they will have 2nd thoughts after awhile and give up. We can only hope.....If there was any other alternative I would be so for it but they have given us no choice. It's be killed or enslaved or get rid of them.

I've been against this war from the beginning. (I'm in the UK) I didn't believe the rhetoric, and what finally convinced me that I was right was the resignation speech of Robin Cook, the former British foreign secretary. He had to leave the government to vote against it:

"The reality is that Britain is being asked to embark on a war without agreement in any of the international bodies of which we are a leading partner - not NATO, not the European Union and, now, not the Security Council. "

"On Iraq, I believe that the prevailing mood of the British people is sound. They do not doubt that Saddam is a brutal dictator, but they are not persuaded that he is a clear and present danger to Britain."

"None of us can predict the death toll of civilians from the forthcoming bombardment of Iraq, but the US warning of a bombing campaign that will "shock and awe" makes it likely that casualties will be numbered at least in the thousands. "

There is so much more in this speech. See the full text:

Why wasn't Iraq contained, as was being done, and the campaign in Afghanistan properly supported?

as a result of 9/11 i was a supporter. we had a justified reason.

but that was then.

president bush has branched too far off of the tree and is only trying to finish his daddy's job. this war is now uneccessary and has become too costly.

even though i do not support this war, from a military perspective i know that we cannot pull out on a timeline. the aftermath would be catastrophic, and everything would be a mess.

i grew up a military brat. now i am a PROUD military wife. the military will always be my family and my home. i whole heartedly support our troops.

I am against the war, so far the only results have been the deaths of thousands of American soldiers, and to me that's unforgivable. This war is costly and unnecesary like you said.

Against it but don't worry the war in Iraq is "mission's accomplished" and "it's in its last throes" just like Bush and Cheney said!
