OK..first go to this site and download the free unzip program:
http://www.camunzip.com
..run this program.
..then to unzip the file you want double click on the file and this program will unzip the file..yes its free..

Are you using XP? You don't have to download anything. Try right-clicking on the file and choose Extract All from the menu.

There are programs that also do the job, but if Windows has file compression support... why not use it?

If you want view the files withing a zipped (compressed) folder, right-click and choose explore.

There are file archiving programs available to unzip files, so that you can view their original contents. Download a free one from this site:
http://pctonic.blogspot.com/2007/05/file-archiver.html

After installing it, just double click on the file. It will open in that file archiver and you can easily extract the contents thereafter.

Or you can use Free Commander. Beside compressing and uncompressing files, it has soo many feature that supercedes Windows Explorer

The answer above is right. The unzipper in Windows XP is the best and simplest thing you can use.
